Topic: Who's the best Bond?

All right, I see the smatterings of the beginnings of a debate going on in the thread where Joe talks about meeting Roger Moore. So I thought what the heck, let's have at it. Screw political or religious debate, let's talk about something serious: THE BEST BOND. I'll just rank mine:

1) Sean Connery - I just don't think there's a question.
2) Daniel Craig - I'm sorry, but I think Craig is just amazing in the role. Playing the young Bond, he's not quite sophisticated yet. It will be really interesting to see how he fleshes out the character in the next couple of movies.
3) Roger Moore - Just barely beats out Brosnan, mainly because I grew up more with this Bond than I did with Brosnan. Very suave.
4) Pierce Brosnan - Made Bond cool again in the mid-90s.
5) Timothy Dalton - In my opinion, he did what Craig is doing now, but the world was not ready for that kind of Bond yet. Actually very underrated.
6) George Lazenby - the only Bond I'm not that much of a fan of.

I know, I know, it's impossible ranking the best because it's all according to taste, but let's go. Put your money where your mouth is.

Re: Who's the best Bond?

I actually loved The OHMSS Film , Brilliant action and with Diana Rigg and Joanna Lumley and some real nasty villians ....  And thought that George Lazenby's performance was natural and fitting with the cool Bond look , It remaims in my top 20 films
Thought all Bonds were excellent and suave with the minor exception of a rigid Timothy Dalton

Yes, indeed, the Bourne Trilogy is amazing. In fact,  I would say that Daniel Craig's Bond films are influenced a little bit by Bourne, with the fast-paced action sequences.

Re: Who's the best Bond?

Hands down Roger Moore.

It was tough not to say Daniel Craig... but that would have been based on looks not acting ability. Enough of the girl talk already!

Re: Who's the best Bond?

I grew up with Pierce as Bond, so I gave it to him, but Daniel Craig is a BAMF no doubt about it.

I've actually been playing Goldeneye on my cousin's old N64 recently, very fun.

I almost gave Sean Connery the vote simply because of this...

That's the only way I know Mr. Connery though

Re: Who's the best Bond?

Sean is and always will be the man...I was never very inmpressed with any of the others until Daniel Craig....Jason Statham has jumped into a favorite should the job open up....I prefer my Bond at least 6 feet 2 inches, some muscle mass, a ladys man and and expert in physical contact (ala...jason Borne ).....I still say to this day, I would have gave Russell Crowe whatever he wanted to take the roll, he's a legitimate tough guy with anger issues...one last thing, he CANT be an american actor, that's all there is to it, no fake accent on my bond, yes I know where Crowe comes from...I want more Bourne fight scenes in my Bond too....now when it comes to a Bond woman, well lets just say, I prefer her amazonish in every which way ( hope thats clean enough for Phil and Jim to let go big_smile)

Shreddy the stunt double yikes

Re: Who's the best Bond?

Jason Statham would be an amazing Bond if he could pull it off. The last 7 movies (I didn't realize I was this big of a Statham fan...) were the Transporter series, Crank, Crank 2, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and Snatch, so essentially a bunch of mindless violence. But if he were to throw in an air of sophistication I think it could work for him...

Once Craig opens up the role a bit and makes the sophistication his own I think he'll be a new favorite for a lot of people.

Re: Who's the best Bond?

Pierce was OK... I think the chicks in the 90's are what saved those Bond movies... like Denise Richards. and wasn't Halle Barry in one? But I was never really a fan of any of the 007 movies. Blasphemy I know.

Re: Who's the best Bond?

I've got to go with Daniel Craig for this. As good as Connery was, and as relevant as Moore and Brosnan were during their stints in the role, i think Craig has brought more gravitas to the franchise of late.

When Pierce finally got the job..I thought "its about time" and he was okay, i enjoyed the films he was in...until that bloody stupid abomination of a movie "Die Another Day" with its invisible car, and that awful awful scene when Bond was para-surfing on a tidal wave.....I totally lost respect for him after that one!!

I think Craig is a far better actor than the others, and will be the one most likely to be unaffected by the Bond-curse in his future career, and i think he's the only one who could compete along side the Bourne movies (awesome trilogy). The bar was raised when they came out, and I think Craig has "stepped up to the plate" so to speak.....i only hope the next one is more along the lines of Casino Royale as opposed to Quantam of Solace.

Re: Who's the best Bond?

Craig is a great actor, with this I do agree. But I think it also has something to do with the fact that in Casino Royale and Quantum, the writers/producers are choosing to give him something in which to truly shine. They're going a bit more in-depth about Bond's psyche and really getting inside him, which gives Craig a ton of room to work with.

(In fairness, I haven't seen the two new ones yet.)

Re: Who's the best Bond?

Your mind shouldn't change if it doesn't want to. With Batman, for the longest time, Michael Keaton was always the coolest to me. Now, Christian is amazing as Batman, but Keaton has a special place because he's the one I grew up with.

Same with Bond. I grew up watching all of them at one time on TV, so there really wasn't a difference for me between Connery and Moore. But I will say that Daniel Craig is absolutely phenomenal. He just makes it work. He fits perfectly in today's world as Bond.

Re: Who's the best Bond?

I have to say sean is the best for me.

Prefered most of his movies.

Goldfinger probs my favourite bond of all time but also loved From Russia With Love and Thunderball.

Re: Who's the best Bond?

There can only be one Bond - Sean Connery.

The Connery Bond films set the benchmark that other Bonds have struggled to reach.

And what's all that nonsense about Roger Moore. For me he should have stuck to playing his Simon Templar role in "The Saint" - far too cheesey to be Bond.

Sadly, the more recent films for me have gone way too far with the stunts and special effects.

Perhaps we should put our owm JB forward for the remake of Gold(top)finger. cool

Please be in no doubt that this is the REAL ME! Beware imposters........................
