Topic: New mic for recording clips

Hi guys
fed up trying to record clips with lousy camera mics then a friend told
me about the zoom h2 , its a portable mic that either records onto a sd card ,
handy for recording live gigs, or connects to computer for direct recording
on to hard disk , the quality is cool for a £100 unit . so I got a short backing track
from the internet and recorded my les paul into my marshall jubilee and fender
hotrod deluxe(before its sold) then tryed to sync it with a video clip  of
me recording it (which wasnt too succesful )but  it gives you an idea of the quality
of the mic. sorry the tracks a bit cheesy but short enough to put something
down with minimum clams . as usual any feedback is encouraged

Re: New mic for recording clips

I have an H2 and I love it. Makes good stereo recordings in any format you like on to an SD card. Great for jams and rehearsals.
Be careful with the little access door for the SD card though. It's held in place by very flimsy, plastic hinges that break easily. Mine broke and Zoom sent me another one free, after about a month wait. Apparently, I'm not the only one breaking the little door.

Re: New mic for recording clips

Cool SOFTMC!  That Zoom thing definately improves the recording quality alot...I really liked how the amps sounded.  Your rig sounded good before but now I know that the previous recordings did no justice!  Very nice playing BTW, nice feel and you're not playing fretboard gymnastics like 90% of the guys with backing tracks do!  Very cool!  I'm curious, why are you letting go of the HRD and are you going to put something in it's place?  Love the LP too...nice stuff!

Great stuff really!! I liked a lot that the overall sound comes a bit more linear instead
of the boxy sound of a cam mic. Maybe this is something for me too to improve my clips.
In the near future I want to make a new clip as I await two cabs and a HRM.
But well played. I like your kind of vibrato. In genreal I like this backing tracks.
Its a more musical thing to show how the rig sounds.

Re: New mic for recording clips

THANKS GUYS
For your generous comments I think for the money the Zoom H2
is a very useful tool , but if you have a decent camcorder then it
would not be needed. I have spoken to Nik at ceriatone for the
OTS HRM . after seeing Justins clip I could not live without it ,but
first I need to sell the HRD , so my wait is long , and when Alex
gets his soon and posts a clip my wait will be harder.
The fender is good but lacks the complex mids I strive to get.

I may do 1 more clip to show how the jubilee sounds with the
stratocaster I think this is the best match for the jubilee as the
darker sound of the amp suits the brite sound of the strat which
gives that ANDY style sound that Joe had with 2 jubes.

Re: New mic for recording clips

That would be sweet man!  Don't sweat the wait times, it'll just allow you to work and make some money in the meantime.  It'll be all worth the wait when that van arrives at your doorstep! big_smile  You'll LOVE how much better it sounds over a HRD which is not a bad amp but there is a BIG difference.  The Dumble ODS is one of the most complex amps ever and to my ears Nik captures every bit of that complexity.  Might I make one suggestion when you get your Ceriatone...check out the Fuchs Verbrator.  It's basically a Dumbleator that allows the effects to interact better with the amp in the loop and also adds a certain "mojo" to the sound.  It's a little warmer, more complex, and slightly more compressed from what I hear.  I really want to get one as soon as I can.  Good luck SOFTMC I patiently await the clips! cool
