I'm not sure what will be more legendary, the tone or the price!!! Yowza, those are some expensive amps! I think they look way cool and I did check out that quick video of Derek Trucks plugging them. I find it funny how Warren is playing them now...the whole point of Derek using them was because Warren's SLO/Diaz duo was drowning out Derek's Supers! When I saw Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi a few months ago Derek's tone was killing on the Super Reverbs...I can't imagine Derek sounding any better than that!
Derek was using the PRS amps at the Beacon this year and I have to say there was to my ears a huge improvement in his tone. I have always enjoyed Dereks playing but not always his sound out of those super sixes, it used to sound very shrill to my ears way to trebley for my taste. Warren was using a Marshall and the Diaz and his tone is always good. I'll let you guys know what they're using at mountain jam this year, its just 2 weeks away now.
Peace,
fuzzy
where did you see warren haynes using a PRS amp. I cant find anything on that.
I have the latest issue of Guitaredge the one thats almost all tabs and they have a full page interview of Warren and Derek talking about the abb and their guitars and stuff. Trucks then say and I'll quote it "About a year ago I selled on this prs prototype head. its been a constant battle for e since I joined the abb because it is so much louder then my group. Its trying to find that balance of the way I play naturally and Projecting over three drummers another guitar player bass and organ. there is a lot of sonic space already filled up. I have tried marshalls and soldanos and the prs feels like a combination of those and has enabled me not to have to think about the gear as much because I was constantly back there tweaking it. even if its not the exact tone I'm looking for every night its always close enough." WH then adds "I recently began experimenting with a prs amp similar to the one derek is using and I may start mixing it in with the marshall the diaz and the soldano." The cover has Duane Allman on the cover of it so enjoy!
Must be decent to get WH to look away from Soldano. But I have to ask the question... isn't there ENOUGH amp companies out there? PRS even came out with acoustics this year! Getting fatigued...
Paul Reed Smith may fancy himself the new Leo Fender of our time. He's really getting his hands in a lot of cookie jars lately! The only thing he needs to work on are his prices. Good lord have you seen what the amps and accoustics cost!? I really think he's just trying to stay competitive in a very weak market right now. His major competitors, Gibson and Fender, both have amplifiers and accoustic guitars to go with their electric line. Gotta respect PRS though, top notch craftsmanship.

As far as Warren ditching Soldano goes.....I'll believe it when I see it.
I don't think thats what he means. Warren was just bringing it in the line up, like Joe does with his amps pairing it up. Diaz will never be replaced and the Soldano is still my pick of the coolest amps since the Mesa Boogie in my opinion. Its a classic and will never be replaced with Gov't Mule. I think the Marshall though is out if he goes with the PRS.
I believe he used it with the Dead. Soldano/Diaz for Mule and Soldano or Marshall/Diaz for Allmans. He used the PRS for the Floyd set Mule did not to long ago. For solo gigs he uses a Fender Super Rever I believe and a Cat 5. The PRS is pretty limited in the line up. Same goes with his Fuchs - he uses it as a guest amp sometimes. I wouldn't be suprised if that is what the PRS turns into.

Man I didn't realize Warren was such an amp hoe. He's almost as bad as our boy Joe! Does/did Trucks play around with Fuchs for a bit? When my dad saw the Allman Brothers he said that Trucks was using a ODS combo instead of his usual Super Reverb. He said Warren was as you said using a Marshall/Diaz mix. Figured I would ask Ben, your name is GotMule31788 for a reason!
C'mon man any guitar player is a gear freak. Whether you find a combonation of amps that you like and use for a long time or always changing you always are trying the "next best thing" lol. I've heard he's messed around with it, but I've never seen him with it. I know in Mule and the Allmans I've seen it as a guest amp. In Mule I've seen Danny Louis use it as his amp for when he plays guitar on a few numbers. It's a 150 watter. Sick! lol

Cool man thanks for the info. I really need to see the ABB or Gov't Mule when they come to town again. I just picked up the Warren Haynes Benefit Concert DVD...WOW. Warren just kills that Les Paul on a couple songs. He's definately in my top 5 favorites right now.
I read on the Gibson site that your right Warren is using the PRS for the Dead exclusively right now, but he also said he's not touched a Les Paul once this year!!! He's playing 335's and Firebirds with the dead. All the ABB videos I've seen at the beacon he was playing his 335 as well when he was playing with Clapton. I hope when I see him in july he's back to LP again. I Love his playing regardless but Him and Les Pauls just work!

IS WH playing with the GratefulDead or something? I was hoping they would never beat that dead horse.
Grateful Dead...
He used plenty of LP at the beacon this year. Only with the Dead he doesn't use his LP's.
Its more like Warren Haynes with the Dead as his backup. I saw them in 2004 and he sang every other song, took the first lead in just about everything and was quite awesome. Then Bob Weir would sing a song and I'd go get a beer or take a piss break. yeah he's back with them.
