Topic: More gear - 2x12 cabinets

I have a plan on triyng new cabinets for my amps.
The Amps are a Ceriatone 2550 and a Budda SD-30.
Currently i use a Marshall 1936 2x12 cab with two different speakers in.
Each amp goes tp one speaker. The Budda to a G12H30 and the 2550
to a EV12L. So far so good and it sounds ok.
If anyone is interested, have a look at the clip "More ceriatone 2550"

My idea now is to use two separate 2x12 cabs for each amp.
They look like this: http://www.tube-town.net/ttstore/produc … -2x12.html
One cab will be fitted with two EV12L for the ceriatone and have a closed back.
The second cab for the Budda SD-30 will have a half open back and is fitted with blue Bulldogs.
I have the speakers still lying around here. From the theory it should sound awesome!!! big_smile

What do you think?

Alex

Sounds like a great idea to me. Check these guys out http://www.earcandycabs.com/articles.ph … icle_id=31

They specialize in 2x12 cabs that can hang with a 4x12. I have a buzzbomb with emminence wizards that sounds huge.

Re: More gear - 2x12 cabinets

I think it's a good idea Alex!  You'd probably get some very interesting tones with that match up.  One question: Is there a particular reason you are wanting to have 2 2x12's instead of 1 stereo 4x12?

'67 and '74 Fender Twin Reverbs, '74 Marshall 1987 lead mkII, Metro Superlead 100. Pedals from TC Electronic, Ibanez, Dunlop, BK Butler, Electro-Harmonix, Fulltone, Maestro/Gibson, Loopmaster switching, VoodooLab, Boss. Gibson and Fender guitars, Dimarzio pickups.

YES  SOUNDS GOOD
closed back 2x12 with evm12ls cannot go wrong

and if your Budda likes bulldogs then yes perfect

4X12 IS heavy with evm12Ls and not easy for transport

plus using a mixture of open back and close back cabs
    gives even more variable  sounds
                                     good luck

$360 for a 2x12 is expensive.  It sounds like a good idea and you should be pleased with the results, but you can find a 2x12 for way cheaper.  There are different build designs too... Marshall, Fender, and Dumble.  I use ones like old Dumbles and I like them b/c they have a lot less wood in them - more natural, spead out tone.  I also prefer front loaded cabs vs. rear loaded cabs (sounds sick I know lol).  I would also look for one with a removable back panel - makes wiring/installing/changing of speakers easier.

Re: More gear - 2x12 cabinets

Hi,

SOFTMC pointed well out the reason for the two 2x12 cabs.
The Budda is very much like a cranked Ac-30 and sounds
very good over an open back cab. The 2550 wants a closed back.
Also they are better transportable. One more thing.
In the closed cab I want a stereo input jack.
For the case I can play only one cab on small gigs
I connect each head to one EV12L and baffle it.

Thanks guys

Joe said when he was splitting a 1960A cabinet with two amps going in, the switch blows out or something like that. I remember saying he's gone through a couple of those switches.  I didn't have any problems, but I doubt I was at the volume or the quantity of times I've done it compared to Joe's road rig.
