Topic: Blues Guitar licks

Here's an interesting scenario.  I was talking to a guitar player at a Salsa show and he said to me something along the lines of his hero was Clapton but he (the guy) was more along the lines of Jimmy Vaughan, not Stevie Ray...OK?

So we jam.  His description was apt.  He's a good guitarist but not a real bluesman.  So I show him three licks that I learned.  One Freddy lick, one Albert lick, and on Eric lick. Pure basic crap really but a place to start...

So he says to me "Why aren't you a guitar player?"  as if that's some sort of noble height to aspire to... roll  No offence, but....dammit man.

My answer:  "Who would I make fun of then?"  lol  There is, after all, a limit to my hyprocrisy...  My old deaf drummer fell off his stool, just crying.  And he's coming back...glutton for punishment, I reckon.

I get a similar kind of thing round here too, always being asked why I dont want to learn to sweep pick and play really really fast mathy heavy downtuned metal.. Hello.. 1991 called, they want their teenage angst back..

I like listening to it, but quite frankly its boring to play! Plus you sound like every other guitarist that has just come out of college after having been to school to learn to play. I learnt to play to get away from school!

Now im not very good at all.. but i love playing the blues, and i've only found one other guy that likes to jam on it too! I think now we are the only pure blues band in my area under the age of about 60! Which I find quite sad sad

Hi... here you have some licks that gary moore usually uses while playing blues...
try to play them...they are quite unique and agressive (if you try with distortion and play them fast).
