Hey thats EXCELLENT....  I never thought anyone could improve on the original, but this REALLY works!

And hows this for an idea....?   seeing as Sam Brown was in Jools Holland's backing band  ...   wouldnt it be amazing if she could duet with Joe on Jool's New Years Eve Hootenanny on BBC TV this year (if they have nothing else planned of course?)  smile

Re: Gateshead 22/4/09

Nearly total agreement with tt225bhp - the sound was very poor at the start but I do not blame the venue for this. Joe now joins my concert list at The Sage along with Bill Wyman, Robert Cray, Lucinda Williams and Emmylou Harris. Yes the venue is sterile at times with total seating but the sound on previous occasions has always been perfection - with some artists commenting on it from the stage! Still, it did come right a short way in and didn't spoil a very good night!

Thanks for the entertainment Joe!:D

Totally agree the venue was amazing but Joe was sensational. Unfortunately  I’ve only had the privilege of seeing him once before with my son who went again last night. This time I took another son along.  And my brother and a cousin who plays guitar rather well himself also attended for the first time but it won’t be there last, my cousin at the end of the show said it was an honour and a privilege to see Joe in action. The only downside if there has to be one was having to sit and no singing-along with Joe. Hope Joe doesn’t see this as lack of enjoyment from I would say an awestruck audience.
Anyone catching the other shows on the tour are in for a treat and I'm quite envious especially for RAH. Keep spreading the word !

I'd REALLY like to hear some singing along on some songs at Royal Albert Hall...

Re: Gateshead 22/4/09

I was there in Gateshead last night at the Sage 22/04/2009. What a building, what a venue, what superb accoustics, thats before we get to Joe himself .
Its the second time I have seen Joe, the first being last year at the Plug in Sheffield. Once again a superb performance by joe and his band, as tight a group of musicians as I have seen in a long time. Highlights too many to mention but Sloe Gin is a favourite of mine and last night it was ballsy and full of emotion STUNNING!!!!!
Roll on Tuesday The City Hall Sheffield.:)

Re: Gateshead 22/4/09

I'm not going to post any review type thingy here as it's all been said really.

I didn't notice the muddy sound at the beginning but did notice the excellent sound overall as did my son who mentioned it during the performance.
What a fantastic venue.

I must admit it was a little sterile and I did want to sing my heart out as I usually do, but somehow it didn't seem appropriate as I would have been heard by the people around me - it's Joe we've come to see and hear, not me !!

Overall, I very much prefer the very comfortable seating to hours of standing in pain behind some taller person. I'll take the small inconvenience of people needing the loo for such comfort and a great view......and the great sound any day.
At standing venues, you always seem to be disturbed throughout the gig by people going to the loo and the bar anyway - much more so than at Gateshead - and by people trying to elbow their way closer to the stage.

Really looking forward to Sheffield as it's where I was born and grew up so it will be a very special gig for me. I saw Led Zep and Joe Cocker there (as well as many, many others) - this will be as special if not more so.

Great to meet up with Tripsy and Simon again. Great company.

Thanks to Joe for chatting to the fans after the gig. I'm just miffed (hope that means the same in the States as it does here) that I didn't take my tab book to be signed as I didn't see Joe at the NEC last November but carried it around all day. Ditto son and his guitar pickguard.

A few surprises for me with the songlist.
This show is BRILLIANT !!

Re: Gateshead 22/4/09

As I commented in an earlier post I was unable to take my seat at Gateshead due to familly illness. The reviews would indicate that I miised a belter.

My Brother was there and commented that it was a beautiful but sterile venue and sitting down was a bit strange. Joe was, however, completely brilliant and all your comments have increased my excitement for the upcoming Sheffild gig to  a level normally felt by a five year in the days leading up to Christmas!!

Roll on Tuesday...........

***** Just watched the "you tube" and I really like the stage and lighting set up. Sheffield City Hall is a lovely venue with top drawer acoustics. It's gonna be good.****

Re: Gateshead 22/4/09

As ever a great concert. I particularly loved the treatment of High Water Everywhere with a great heavy drum treatment and acoustic. Simple yet stunning!!

Re: Gateshead 22/4/09

Thought last night's concert at The Sage was outstanding and Joe was in top form - a true guitar virtuoso. Well worth waiting for after being postponed from November 2008.
