Topic: JBLP - small problem...

Hi,

on my JB Les Paul the b strings jumps out of the little plastic saddle on the bridge
if I bend it up more than a semi note. The g and e string doesn't do that.
I have Ernie Balls 11-48 on it and they are top wrapped.

Anyone have the same prob? I think either to put on the strings the normal way
to have more pressure on the bridge or even replace the plastic saddle to a steel one.
But I like this top wrapped playing feeling. Its easy to bend strings but if they jump out
(at least the b string) its annoying.

Re: JBLP - small problem...

How high is your bridge set?  Is your action very low?  Have you tried hightening the B string saddle?  Sounds like you might not have enough angle coming across the saddle.

Re: JBLP - small problem...

Sounds like it's just a little under pressured because of the top wrap. First before you do anything make sure the tailpiece is as low as it will go and like StratPaul says try raising the saddle slightly. Increasing the angle slightly will usually cure it.

I haven't had any trouble with mine but my buddies b string jumped out too and he has metal saddles. What I did was just slightly and I mean very slightly just groove the saddle down a very tiny bit and that cured it.
We're only talking in 1000's of an inch though so it's like only 1 pass at a time of a very fine file with a V edge. Then try it and if it jumps try it again until it seats properly. You just want the string to seat properly not really go deeper into the saddle so be really careful and take your time. Filing should be done only as a last resort.

Re: JBLP - small problem...

Thanks you two :-)

Yes the Action is quiet low and the angle is too flat
to have enough pressure on the bridge. I like that low action
on this LP so raising the bridge isn't what i'm looking for.
I will try to file the saddle a little deeper.
Then we will see. I will be very careful but
are these nylon saddles somewhere availabe
just for the case I mess it up?

Thanks guys

Re: JBLP - small problem...

Solved! smile
I filed the slot of the saddle a bit down and now it works.
Even if you overstretch the the string to 3 semi notes it doesn't
jump out anymore. Thats good. Next gig can come big_smile

Thanks guys
