Topic: Hola/Salut/Grüß Gott/Hi/Ciao etc etc everyone

Hi

Just a quick heads up as I'm new here...

My friend Libby has been telling me for ages to join up, and seeing as I'll be at the RAH next month, I guess nows a good time
As I mentioned on one of my posts, I am a big fan of Vinyl, and expecting delivery of the 3 new JB releases shortly...  will let you know how they are, but if they are anything like LFNIP the audio quality will be stunning.  Anyone that hasnt rediscovered vinyl yet...do so...   decent turntables can be picked up very cheaply these days...

As I also mentioned, I'm also a guitarist..mainly blues rock..so same kind of vein as JB...I'm also a bit of a guitar afficionado..again same vein as JB but unfortunately with not QUITE as many great amps and guitars as he has...   Ive been playing over 30 years, done some fun gigs, and have the dubious honour of having played the legendary 100 Club in London, and despite my 'not worthy' protestations, I had to sign the guest book  ...  so I'm in there with Jeff Beck, BB,Hendrix.Clapton,The Rolling Stones  ... etc etc..you name it..they are there ...I think even Muddy Waters is too  .. yikes

I live on the Isle of Man ..   before anyone asks..and yes I do...and no I dont before you ask the inevitable next questions! wink

Anyway  enough of me...

Ah, a cunning linguist from the IoM! big_smile

Welcome Steve, Libby mentioned you to me a few days ago. I'm sure we can manage to get in touch in London somehow. I'll be accompanied by someone who will want to pump you about the IoM and certain young musicians who hail from there. wink

I suggest you go to the pre-RAH meet topic and ask Wooders to make you a name badge too, then you can turn up before the show and be recognized.

Enjoy the forum, post regularly!

RIP Iron Man

Heheh thanks...  cunning linguist indeed I am ;-)

Not sure what time I'll get myself to the RAH...still trying to figure out how to best get down there at the mo. and looks like the party is out  ..too late  sad

Yep I figured a few people might want to ask about the said...  I heard things got a bit 'heated' on here about them a while back ..so I dont want to fuel any of that...  hence my  "before anyone asks..and yes I do...and no I dont before you ask the inevitable next questions" on the post  ....        so apologies in advance for being reticent to go into any depth... and some questions I may not answer on the grounds that the two former member of that band could end up in an even more unpleasant situation as a result...

Happy to talk about the IOM itself hough   .especially the TT if anyone is coming over  (The Fabulous Thunderbirds and 'poodle-rocksters' Whitesnake' are headlining this year

Also happy to talk about guitars and amps in a big way...  and has anyone told JB yet that the black pickguard on his LP looks naff??  ;-)   LP's look far better without anything there....  big_smile

ps...  I'm wondering how long it will take before anyone with sharp eyesight comments on my Avatar ;-)

Re: Hola/Salut/Grüß Gott/Hi/Ciao etc etc everyone

Even with my reading glasses on and my nose up to the monitor, I can only tell that there's a white man and a rather larger black man, who might or might not be BB. neutral

The BDS 'thing' to which you refer only got 'out of hand' because of the persistent over-enthusiastic exuberance of a few posters. There's certainly nothing like a 'ban' about mentioning them. Indeed, if you look in the 'other artists' you'll see a Davy Knowles topic.

Hehe big_smile well done..your eyesight is better than mine...even I cant tell it's BB at that resolution (but it is...)

DK and I were very, very good friends for many years...  until all the alleged 'amicable split' ... thats why I'm not too keen on discussing BDS ....  or him  ...  I read and hear a  lot of views about him and what happened to the band..but few people know the real score..and it's probably better that way.........

Anyway  enough of that..this is JB's thread... smile and I'm STILL trying to find a reasonably priced, nice hotel in London nearish to the RAH..which given the current economic climate , and the number of times Ive been to London should be very  easy..   wasted 3 hours on Hilton UK's cr@p website which is more flawed than a very flawed thing  ...and wrote them a very stinging email so I wont be using their services again after a good 10 years of loyalty  ....   might have to take a tent and sleep in Hyde Park wink

Re: Hola/Salut/Grüß Gott/Hi/Ciao etc etc everyone

Welcome to the forum Steve. Hope you find yourself a hotel and that I bump into you at somepoint in London, although I will be in the Hilton, so I don't think I'll see you there!  smile

My viewpoint is that there were too many posts about BDS, but it was the personal insults in the backlash that made that discussion get 'out of hand.'  It could have happened with any artist from any part of the world, so we shall not dwell on that.

Wecome aboard! smile

Hi Greenose
Thanks a million
Haha  good luck at the Hilton!  wink   Ive stayed in almost all the ones in London...which one are you at in case they get their act together and I end up there after all??

Understood ref BDS...   I heard a bit of what happened here from various sources and steered clear..   its too easy for those things to get out of hand as you say....  anyway BDS are 'no more' despite all that anyone else says   ..so its not important anymore

More important...  no one has guessed yet where my avatar pic was taken...   any guesses??   smile

At the Kensington Hilton, it's the nearest to the RAH, which is also my guess to your question, was the picture taken at the Albert Hall?

Yep  spot on..at the RAH in  2000 I think it was....   BB is such a great guy....  huge inspiration...and he laughed his socks off when I told him it was impossible to get a decent tone out of a Gibson 'Lucille' and a Lab Series L5  smile

Yep  I was thinking of the Ken Hilton too or the Olympia as I'm flying into Gatwick so handy for the train.....

Re: Hola/Salut/Grüß Gott/Hi/Ciao etc etc everyone

Welcome to the forum Steve. Any friend of Libby's is a friend of ours smile
I went to the Isle of Man once when I was 11. Managed to lacerate my foot on a piece of glass on Laxey beach and ended up in the casualty department roll
Still think it's a lovely place though.

Nice to have you here

Hi Tripsy and thanks for the warm welcome !

Yep its a lovely place...  but at least you only stood on glass on Laxey Beach..   last week they closed it as an incendiary device washed up on the shore!! yikes

Nice to 'be here' smile

Re: Hola/Salut/Grüß Gott/Hi/Ciao etc etc everyone

Hi again everybody....

Hoping to say 'hi'  in person as it looks like I will be at the party after the RAH ...  but please everyone dont ask me about BDS either in person or otherwise....   the very last thing I want to do is get involved with any discussions about what 'did' and 'didnt' happen...

Many thanks in advance for your understanding and respecting my wishes, and more importantly ..I'm guessing Joe would be happier...the site and THE night are all about JB smile
