Topic: Children Achievements…..

Thought I’d bring up a subject that hopefully, others will post on. I’m very proud of both of my children and the things that they have achieved in their young lives so far. I know I’m not the best father in the world, but when they accomplish something special, I feel great pride in them.

Friday, when I went to the mailbox, there were two items for my daughter in there. On one envelope it indicated, “Do Not Bend, Certificate Enclosed”, and the other dealt with the National Honor Society. As I’m the family mail opener/sorter, I opened both of these envelopes. Apparently in one, Sarah had applied for admission to the National Honor Society and was granted admission; a wonderful achievement for her considering how hard she works on her education.

In the second envelope was a letter and certificate from the Wisconsin High School Golf Coaches Association telling us that she is an Academic All-State honoree. This is an honor that is bestowed on student athletes who have maintained a cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average) of at least 3.5 out of 4.0 while competing in a sport at the varsity level. Apparently, there were 103 female golfers that were so honored this year and their combined GPA average was 3.817.

You know as a father, sometimes children can be very trying and you sit back and wonder if you’re doing all the things you need to for them. But then they do some things like this that even I know I could never achieve.

Thanks Martin, but I don't take much of the credit. Sarah is now age 17 and a junior in high school. She takes honors courses and is on the high schools honor roll. She's really looking forward to her college education, although we're not yet sure what school she will attend. You know, I can't even remember asking Sarah at any time if she had done her homework. I guess that in itself, speaks volumes as to how important school is to her and how hard she works at it.

I sure wish more proud parents would post something here about their children. It's always nice to hear good things that our future is doing.

My own daughter surprises me. She is a typical teen, untidy, knows it all and like whirlwind throughout the house, her attitude is very stubborn. Yet her school reports on the whole are really pleasing.
Alex with all he puts up with has excellent results too and is  off to residential college in Sept. I take my hat off to him.

Well I hope my boys do so well in school as your daughter Roy!  But I'll have to see about that, as Joey is only 2 1/2 and the 2nd is still in my belly... however, I have a heart warming story about my gentle boy Joey. 

Last night my husband I attended a parenting class at my work (the local Family Resource Center) while Joey played in the playrooms with the other kids whose parents were also attending the class.  Now I didn't suspect that Joey would have many issues acclimating to his surroundings because he was at "momma's work" and he does attend Montessori so has good socialization skills.  And he didn't really... however, there was one little boy who missed his mommy so much that he'd burst into tears and couldn't be consoled by an adult.  So Joey with his kind heart, also started crying when this other little boy did.  The end result was that the other boy was so stunned by Joey's empathy that it caused him to stop crying and just stare.  LOL.  This affected Joey so much he had to go home, call Grandma and tell her about the "sad boy at momma's work".  When he gets over the typical 2 year old rowdy boy bit, I am so proud of the loving soul my baby is!

I have my hands full.  My oldest son the guitar player & zen warrior is at Rollins College on a scholarship.  He graduated Summa Cum Laude from High School.  All I get from him are bills...and movie/music reviews. big_smile Although I did see a pic of his exotic the other day.

My middle child is a runner and a musical ADD boy.  He brought home a lousy Report last term and I went purple and grounded his sorry butt.  He came back this report with  excellent marks, and I gave him back his keys, his phone, his Ipod, his Xbox, etc.  This weekend my house was full with all his teamates, telling him, "...about time you did right."  He's now out with his girlfriend and her twin sister and they are even younger than my daughter.

Who is a fantastic student, an incredible musician and has a 20 year old boyfriend who has his BS in Civil Engineering in 3 months.  He was here over the weekend as well.

So I have a house full of kids all ages, all colors, all genders and all of them are touchy feely.. Groan...

But Boyfriends mother was on one of my kid's teachers.  and girlfriends mother is a good friend of mine and it's just...well it just is.

And they are all actively involved in community service.  MsTia is very proud.

Not really.  The girlfriends tell my sons how cool their dad is and what a "hottie" their mom is and my daughter reports that boyfriend is so much like me it's scary... cool

What a wonderful story about Joey! That reflects the type of person you are, caring and loving. Isn't it amazing how even the young can teach us things that many of us have forgotten? wink

No one can tell a funnier story about regular life than you can. big_smile Sounds like your children are a bit of a chip off the old block, you think? Of course, I'm sure Ms Tia and you have shown them lots of love otherwise, they wouldn't be "touchy feely" as you said. Hey, nothing wrong with that at all my friend. smile

My kids are grown. I'm happy if they call to talk ocassionally. They both have jobs. One joined the circus but it something he really wanted to do so I'm happy for him. Even though he is wasting his college education. The other wears a suit to work. Had to go to college for that. Still paying those college loans back. I told him he should of been a National Merit Scholar. I hope they will visit me in the nursing home some day.
