Topic: Jeff Beck's 'Performing This Week...Live At Ronnie Scott's DVD 3/31

On March 31, Eagle Rock Entertainment, through its Eagle Vision subsidiary, will release Jeff Beck's Performing This Week…Live at Ronnie Scott’s on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Filmed over the course of several gigs at the famed Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in 2007, Performing This Week…(CD released November 25) features a compilation of material spanning Beck’s genre-jumping career. From Rock to Jazz to Blues, with some Boogie and Beatles to boot, this was a week that positively rocked the intimate London club. His band includes Tal Wilkenfeld (bass), Vinnie Colaiuta (drums), and Jason Rebello (keyboards). Joss Stone, Imogen Heap, and Eric Clapton also made special appearances, complementing Beck’s wild guitar work with their diverse vocal approaches.

"This was a great week. Playing in such an intimate club with my friends and my amazing band…. What more could a musician want." - Jeff Beck

These DVDs are the first to be approved by the man himself. They are stocked with not just a conglomerate of great performance picks, but stellar bonus material. A rare in-depth interview features Beck talking about his experience at Ronnie Scott’s, as well as giving the floor to his band members for some interview time. The Blu-Ray also includes an exclusive 7-track rockabilly set with the Big Town Playboys.

I've been watching this one (the regular version) the past few days, and this is absolutely killer. The performances are amazing, the audio (2.0, 5.1 and DTS) and video(16:9 wide screen) are stellar, and it's fun to pick out Jimmy Page and Robert Plant out in the crowd enjoying the show. This one is a "must have" for any fan of serious guitar playing. Which, I assume would be everyone who frequents this site. This is the best band Jeff's had in years, and his performances on the DVD are the best I've heard him in over two decades. The only thing I wish would've happened had been Jimmy Page joining Beck and Clapton on "You Need Love", the Muddy Waters/Willie Dixon penned song that Jimmy ripped off for "Whole Lotta Love". tongue

I agree Keith, this one is excellent - Jeff´s playing as well as the guests.
I´m not a big fan of Imogen Heap, but the tracks with Joss Stone and Eric Clapton are outstanding ... sometimes you just can´t help shaking your head in disbelief at what kinds of sounds this guy gets out of his guitar..."How on earth does he do that?!" ....
I don´t own too many Jeff Beck records (2 to be exact), but actually watching him play is something else - this is really a must have DVD, not only for the ones who are Jeff Beck fans anyway.

i have this on cd and it is fantastic.  I usually don't buy music dvd's because i dont watch them nearly as much as i listen to albums, but my birthday is coming up and this would make a nice gift.  I have live at ronnie scott's, live at bb king's, and also the beckology box set which includes material from most bands he's been involved in.  for my money his live material is far better than studio.

This is featured on the weekly Amazon "new DVD releases" email I received this morning.

Eva - might I recommend his "Blow by Blow" CD? I think it's his best. It's from his "jazz fusion" period.

Brother Don speaketh the truth! I'm surprised that they actually carried this - and there were about 5 copies on the shelf at my local one. Their CD/DVD department carries mostly mainstream rock, hiphop and country. How did Jeff Beck sneak a DVD in there?

Now I've got something to watch on that long flight over to London (once I get through the other JB's DVDs big_smile !)

Re: Jeff Beck's 'Performing This Week...Live At Ronnie Scott's DVD 3/31

Mine arrived from Amazon this morning and despite the fantastic weather outside I just had to stay in and watch this DVD. It's absolutely mesmerising and seems even better than I remember it being on TV. It's real gobsmacking stuff and I agree totally with Eva: it's definitely a must have DVD. Simply amazing. wink

I saw the Jeff Beck Group at the time of that eponymously named album, Eva. They were good and I love his version of Goin' Down. Gary Moore played a live version of Goin' Down that Jeff B made with SRV on his show on Planet Rock last week and said Jeff does the best version of this classic song. Shame he didn't do it at Ronnie Scotts, but I guess it's more blues rock than jazz rock guitar.

Re: Jeff Beck's 'Performing This Week...Live At Ronnie Scott's DVD 3/31

I just picked this dvd up today. One of the best music dvds I have bought in a long time! Excellent!! I also discovered a great singer from this show Imogen Heap!! WOW! What a voice. The 2 Clapton songs rocked also. All in all, a fantastic show.

I also noticed about 1:30 into the dvd, Robert Plants mug for a few seconds. Anyone else catch this?

Brilliant, start to finish.  Jeff proves once & for all that he owns the Strat.

Thanks for the heads-up on this, and I always appreciate a deal alert... even if it IS Wal-Mart, lol. tongue

I was actually supposed to be seeing Jeff Beck TONIGHT in Scranton PA, 11th row center I think... woulda had a killer recording to share with you afterwards too... but my friend ACCIDENTALLY SOLD his tickets! roll  There was a point where he thought he wouldn't be able to make the show, so he had listed his tickets on Ticketmaster's TicketExchange... then he resolved his conflict and we made our plans... and he forgot they were listed til they sold.  To say that I'm disappointed would be an understatement... hmm

Re: Jeff Beck's 'Performing This Week...Live At Ronnie Scott's DVD 3/31

I just picked this up on Blu-Ray. Wow.............wow. Jeff Beck has long been my favorite guitar player. When my friends in high school were listening to disco crap, I was listening to Blow by Blow and Wired. He is 64 years old and still absolutely amazing.
