Topic: Shopping for Pedalboard

Hi,

I'm now looking to get a pedalboard for my pedals. Theres a bunch of pedalboard between 100 and 400$ and I want to know wich one is the best and wich one is crap. I want something large with a hardcase and the price is not a problem. What's your advice ?

Re: Shopping for Pedalboard

Hello-
This is a very good question, as i have been looking around for a pedal board as well. One of the boards that i am seriously looking at is the Lava Cable Configurable Pedal Board System, or CPS.... i will post a link below. It may be a little overboard, but it is put together in pieces so you can make it as large or as small as you need/want it to be, and there is no problem expanding it as your pedal collection grows. Well, I hope this helps... i wont be buying it anytime soon, as i need another guitar before i buy a pedal board... otherwise i would leave a review.

Thanks
Logan

Re: Shopping for Pedalboard

If you are handy with a few tools, build one.  For less than $100 you can have a custom pedalboard that fits your specific needs.  I have my frame made of oak with plywood as the top.  You can use regular cheap black carpet from Home Depot for the top (velcro REALLY clings to that stuff).  So a couple pieces of wood for the frame, sheet of plywood, polyurethane to seal the wood, then glue and carpet...voila custom pedalboard.  I added some handles too to help lift the beast.  My father and I built some for our rigs with his being even nicer.  He built a bracket underneath the board to hold his Pedal Power II to free up space on top.  Point is, I will probably NEVER waste money on a high dollar pedalboard again because building your own is fun, durable, and cost effective.  Good luck!

Yeah, DIY is cool!

    Here's a great build:

And just for fun, a Multi Guitar Stand:

Now, that new "modular" system from Lava looks really cool. And so do these:

Re: Shopping for Pedalboard

since im just 15 i need to spend my money wisley i came up with a good idea.
I bought a Aliminum (is it called that in english?) case at Lidl (a german store wich sells all kinds of stuffs) for like 3 years ago, and i pretty much lend it to my brother so he got a case for microphones but now i have got 5 pedals and im going to start gigging so my bro came up with this idea of building a Wooden "(pedal)board" to have in the case and then just lift it out when im using it...works great!

also if youre going to build your own...to save space, and if you have a power supplyer...make the pedalboard like a "ramp" and you can put the powersupplyer underneath it...heres pictures on mine:

Just the pedals:

Here's what i mean with the "power-supply-thing"

(that blue thing is the power supplyer, having it under the board helps in two ways...it gives the pedalboard a extra support when ur pushing on it and it takes no space so i can add more pedals)

Hope this was a lil bit usefull!

and sorry for my bad english!!

Re: Shopping for Pedalboard

Simon,

that was smart and easy. Same thing some guys do in Lithuania due to low income. One of my friends bought this kind of a case for 15€, and the rest costed him like 5€ and couple hours of work to fix smile

Re: Shopping for Pedalboard

+1 on the under mount power supply, that's what I did with my voodoo labs.  I have made several boards... some in a case and some out, DIY is just the way to go.  There is nothing out there that you can buy that is worth a damn IMHO.  Not yet anyways, waiting to see if I can get a patent on mine big_smile.  They all just seem to lack basic functionality and a well thought out design, it's like, "well, this is the way we have always done it" roll  Another thing to consider is ease of set up at a gig and knob/settings protection in transit.  Fire up the tablesaw and watch those fingers!

Joe...look me up the next time you're in Flagstaff, Az and I'll hook you up with one. wink

Where the hell does one get a black-backed gold top anyway?

Hey man check out this board. SKB PS-45.

264.00.  This is my board. I love it. Easy to use, keeps effects safe.  Plenty of power. Fairly cheap.

NYC, something else to consider. I bought one about two years ago and have been more than happy.  Its very convenient the bottom half of the case is the board, so for playing shows you just set it down and take the lid off. Customizable too.

Main downside is there is no kind of power supply with it, so basically you have to factor in an extra 100 dollars to the cost, unless you already have a power supply.

Cool design,  similar to my first version.  The "in the case" feature really prevents screwing up your settings, built mine into a flight case.  Good way to go if you have the cash.  Very heavy once you get everything into it though....I was wishin' for a roadie!

Re: Shopping for Pedalboard

Here's one of my home made boards. It's angled up, so the power supply is mounted underneath it. Also, there are holes on either side, for cables to pass through. That way, the cables run out to the sides, and not straight out under your feet. Just pine. Light (about 1LB. without pedals), and plenty strong enough. Great for local gigs, etc. If I were going "on tour", maybe I'd make one out of metal. But, pine is plenty for my local uses. And that Industrial Strength Velcro works like a charm! Another option? Take the rubber feet off the pedals, and screw the pedals directly through the board. That keeps them very secure, as far as audience members wanting a "souvenir" from your gear! madroll:P

I can't figure out how to post a picture into this post. But, I'll keep trying! tongue

Re: Shopping for Pedalboard

I highly suggest building one yourself. It's a no-brainer really, search around for some diy pedal board guides or take a look at what has already been posted here

Re: Shopping for Pedalboard

I recommend the Pedal Pad.  There are several sizes available.  They are angled and you can hide all of the wires and power stripes under the adjustable top plates.  The also sell movable power supply and effects routing modules that work great (no problems after two years use).  They are a bit on the heavy side but it comes with a easily removable lid that attaches to form a suitcase style travel box.

Re: Shopping for Pedalboard

Thanks guys for all your suggestion, I'll take it in consideration. I recently found a beautiful pedalboard with a smoothcase, a Gator GPT-PRO for only 122.00$ and I'm seriously thinkin to buy it. Someone have experience with that pedalboard?

Re: Shopping for Pedalboard

Plywood + black paint + a couple pieces of 2x4 to give it a good angle for the power supply on the bottom side.

That way you can drill holes for the power stuff and just have it run through the top of the board. Makes for a very clean set up.

Gator does have a pretty cool one, called (I think) the Gigman? Something like that.

Anyway, it's a Pedalboard, AND a Guitar Stand, in one. It'll hold 3 or 4 Guitars. And when you close it up, the GUitar Stand is also a cover for the Pedalboard. Pretty sweet!

I have the Gator GW-GIG BOX JR PWR Guitar Stand and Powered Pedal Board  - The concept is great HOWEVER it is not made well.  I would not recommend.
