Re: Great Article on tone controls

Cool article, that's why I love Dr. Z amps.  Minimal tone stacks allow the natural sound of the guitar to come through.  I was shocked at the tones you could get out of the first Z I ever played through ( only a Volume and Tone knob ).  Nothing is more frustrating than to try out something like a Mesa Recto with 20 knobs and still struggle to find some inspiring sounds.  I like the less is more approach.

'67 and '74 Fender Twin Reverbs, '74 Marshall 1987 lead mkII, Metro Superlead 100. Pedals from TC Electronic, Ibanez, Dunlop, BK Butler, Electro-Harmonix, Fulltone, Maestro/Gibson, Loopmaster switching, VoodooLab, Boss. Gibson and Fender guitars, Dimarzio pickups.

Decided to try out the suggested settings.
Damn good tone really. Put the mid up more and god its good sounding!
Try it everyone! big_smile

Re: Great Article on tone controls

Interesting article. I shot an email to my amp designer (budda) and asked him how he would set to tone controls to approximate a tone stack bypass. I tried the settings from the article, and they sounded very good at low volumes anyway. Thanks, Nic! Always looking for new settings.

Re: Great Article on tone controls

Ha.

Yeah, Metallica, vanhalen, etc have always preached to scoop the mids out on the tone controls for the whole V shape EQ thing, and that really hampers guitar tone. While I still like the scooped sound for really heavy stuff, I find that mid knob creeping higher and higher with time.
