Thanks Joe for such a cool time hanging out.  I think we're going to try and make the Md. show - hopefully we get to chat it up again sometime.  It was a pleasure!

Re: I got to try some new amps yesterday

Wow Joe is beyond cool letting the fans play his rig!  I am wayyyyy jealous man.  You have officially become the most envied player on the forum.  Some questions:  How does Joe's rig stack up to the one you use?  What was your favorite amp combination of Joe's?  And most importantly....HOW DID YOU CONVINCE JOE TO LET YOU PLAY HIS RIG!?!?!?!

'67 and '74 Fender Twin Reverbs, '74 Marshall 1987 lead mkII, Metro Superlead 100. Pedals from TC Electronic, Ibanez, Dunlop, BK Butler, Electro-Harmonix, Fulltone, Maestro/Gibson, Loopmaster switching, VoodooLab, Boss. Gibson and Fender guitars, Dimarzio pickups.

Re: I got to try some new amps yesterday

First off it was sick.  My rig compared to his was pretty close.  He showed me each amp by themselves and then together.  The trick to his rig though is not only in the amps, but wat he has in  that rack.  There is some cool stuff, so much I can't remember it all lol.  As far as favorite IDK lol they were all pretty sick.  The most impressive thing which is what led to me playing "the one" on "#1" was he remember my video of my amps and then proceeded to remember every amp I used and that I had custom cabs that looked like old Dumble cabs.  So then he goes, "Well you're the winner today come with me".  The next thing I know we're into this gear conversation and talking about our rigs and then let me wail out some (I offered a fair trade, but he wouldn't take it lol).  Then he took out all his guitars and showed me them.  When he complimented my playing though it meant a lot comming from the guy I look up to as a musician and I thank you Joe for making it such a great evening for me.

Re: I got to try some new amps yesterday

In his rack he had some chorus', reverbs, and delays that went through the van weelden and carol ann ( TC was one of them).  It was pretty full lol.  The bogner was just straight up.  I liked the bogner very much, it put you into that youthfull rock out in your face sound and the carol ann and the van weelden were very mature amps with great articulation.  On the pedal board he had the copper fuzz, 808, pork loin I believe, cutom wah (no vox), dd3, and a supa trem (I liked this very much and am considering one for myself actually).  The action wasn't low, but it wasn't high either.  You could prob. just get away playing slide on it w/ light touch.  It was great b/c the way his guitars were set up were very similar to mine so I was very comfortable on it.  It was loud, but with the shields it deflected the sound away so it wasn't blasting you in the chest.  We were talking about them and I told Joe that I was a firm believer in them after I put them in my rig and he said yea totally, you could do more damge with a twin un-shielded then the monster.

Re: I got to try some new amps yesterday

Did you guys happen to talk about the pickups in the LP's?  I know what is in his sig LP and the Burst has the old PAF's but what about the Lp with the Bigsby?...what dos that have?...also anyone know why one of his sig LP's have a white/cream plastic parts where the other is black?  What # LP is the one with the white plastic?

2009 Gibson Les Paul 1958 VOS (with black plastic)
2008 Gibson Les Paul Traditional Goldtop (with the cream plastic from the 58RI)
> Marshall Bluesbreaker 2 pedal >Boss sd-1> DD3 > Vox Ac15cc1

We didn't talk P/U's but I think I read somewhere that the Bigsby has Duncans.  The reason it's white is b/c he likes the look.  It's # 52.

Re: I got to try some new amps yesterday

That's way cool Ben thank you for sharing your experience with Joe with all of us.  And thank you Joe for being the ONLY famous guitarist on the planet that would let fans connect on that kind of level.  BB King was right..."one of a kind".  BTW were you at a gig or was it like a blues seminar???

COOL BEN
Must have been a great honour to play through Joes rig
did you prefer the jubilee sound or are you gona stick with the MESA

"Everybody's entitled to my opinion. wink

Re: I got to try some new amps yesterday

I'll keep the Mesa.  IDK if its b/c I have similar tastes in tone/influences as Joe (him being one of them) and I did copy his idea, but when he demoed his amps one at a time, I was shock at how close the Mesa sound was to his Jubilee.  Like freakishly close.  I never intended to be an exact copy of Joe and I know I never will be and thats cool, I just think his idea of amps in perfect in getting a variety of honest sounds.  Of course I have my Bonamassa settings in my rig and I play a ton of Joe-isms smile lol, but it's b/c I admire him and what he does.  I have plenty of others as well and I wear my influences w/ pride...

Ben

PS.  It was a great honour, not only playing through his rig, just being able to talk to the man on a friendly level.  I hope I get the chance to meet him and talk again.  I have so much I'd like to ask him, not only gear, just music in general.

Heresy I say.  Hey , I am Partial 2 Marshall afterall.  Man that's cool,  I would love to play thru all Joe's stuff.  Is it just me or is Joe gettin' thinner?  Is it life on the road or does he have a personal trainer now?  The man needs some BBQ, ok what man doesn't... big_smile

Where the hell does one get a black-backed gold top anyway?

LOL w/ EL34's and set up w/ no reverb and some delay it does sounds pretty close.  It's the only Mesa I do really like though.  You can keep those Rectifiers and what not.

PS -Yea BBQ is the best.  I need summer bad!

I envy you like crazy. I wish I was you big_smile
