Topic: Rhode Island April 3, 2009

Hi All,

I am about to have my first Joe experience on April 3rd from the front row.....what can I expect?
I am really excited about the show...

Joe, is there a chance to meet you after the show?  Would love to chat with you about some ideas I have for a benefit show for the Station Family Fund, as I am a survivor of the Station/Great White Fire in RI back in 2003.  I usually do a benefit show every other year to help those who suffered from that fire still today.

Barry, you are going to be so glad you discovered Joe, you will have heard his records and seen him on the PC and possibly on DVD, but nothing, and I mean nothing, prepares you for what you will see these guys do when you see them on April thrid. Firstly it's a steam train of a show, relentless, and powerful, it will rock your senses and tamper with your emotions. There will be moents that you have never experienced before and a tonal quality you never thought existed. I'd better stop there before he reads this and gets all embarrassed.

I just know you will be impressed!

Re: Rhode Island April 3, 2009

Hello Barry.I live in Woonsocket and will be in the 3rd row Center Section on the Aisle(right).I've seen Joe 5 times in the past couple of years and it's always a pleasure going to his shows.I know you'll enjoy it as well.See you at the Stadium.

Re: Rhode Island April 3, 2009

Barry,
Had the pleasure of seeing Joe on March 7th for the 5th time.  Like Geoff said, nothing compares to seeing the band live.  I have seen Joe grow into a magnificent performer and he has such a great stage presence.  The setlist, if it hasn't changed, is the strongest I've experienced.  It will take you up, down and sideways.  Wish I could be there to see your expressions.  First timers I've been around typically need to pick their jaw up off of the ground. big_smile big_smile  Have fun!

Re: Rhode Island April 3, 2009

Oh I am sure I will be loving it....Will my jaw be on the floor...possibly...noting against Joe but growing up my guitar hero was Rik Emmett of Triumph.  I have gotten to know Rik quite well.  I have had the pleasure of being a promoter of Rik's...been to dinner with him several times...even had Rik perform in the back seat of my car with an accoustic guitar as I drove him to a gig....that was some major goose bump factor going on.

I love Joe's music and his playing...I am so looking forward to Friday.  I wish I get a chance to meet Joe.  It would be an honor to meet the man....and one of my biggest influences in my playing style today.

Wow...I should try to get a major GB factor going and book both Rika nd Joe for a show....maybe up in Berklee in Boston....HMMM....Joe, what do you think of that?

Luvtheblues, any good restuarants around the venue?

Re: Rhode Island April 3, 2009

Hello Barry. You can eat at Chans Chinese restaurant right down the street from the Stadium.

Re: Rhode Island April 3, 2009

Barry, all I can say is buckle your seat belt so you don't get blown away! big_smile

Joe usually greets his fans and signs autographs after each show. Sometimes it's right at the stage, or could be at the merchandise table or at the tour bus.  Give him about 5 or 10 minutes after the show to change clothes and grab a soda and he'll be out.

Re: Rhode Island April 3, 2009

Barry, I will be looking after this Fri to read what many a "Bonavirgin" has submitted on this forum - that it was a show like like no other.
I go back to your initial post - I live in Ct but work in RI and drive by the Station site often. I have to stop by just to take a moment to reflect. Still, after all these years, I think about all the firetraps I have been in to see my fav band. My thoughts are with you for all the horrible memories you have to live with from that night.
I hope you get to meet Joe and even throw out the idea of a fundraiser gig. P Pac in Providence would be a fine venue. If it even happens I will drag many a blues fan over from CT for such a worth cause.
Can't make the show this weekend - off to the motor city to root on my Huskies! I will be there in spirit!!
Chan's, as mentioned is fine - close by but with a show at the Stadium get there early.  Had dinner at Joe's last performance there! Chinese food and Joe B..that was a mind blower!

Rock on!

Re: Rhode Island April 3, 2009

Rhoovis,  thank you for your kind thoughts!!!

Re: Rhode Island April 3, 2009

It's always an emotional experience.

Anticipation then exhilaration. Afterwards there's that "warm fuzzy" feeling that lasts for days.

As great as the shows are, I find myself wanting Joe to go the "Grateful Dead" route and play for about 5 hours... smile

Re: Rhode Island April 3, 2009

I too am seeing my frist show tonight in Woonsocket and I CAN'T wait!!!

Re: Rhode Island April 3, 2009

Barry - I will be one of the others in the front row with you (look for the camera).  I am bringing 4 Bonavirgins, so it looks like almost half of the front row will be novices!  You will be in for a treat!

See you tonite!

Re: Rhode Island April 3, 2009

Joe and the band were just incredible at the Stadium last night. He played for well over 2 hours with 1100 hundred in attendance. The sound was great in the Theater and Joe was in fine voice.Marianne Keith was the warm up act.I saw her open for Joe last October at the Showcase Live venue in Foxboro and i hope she gets some more recognition as she has an incredibly powerful voice and is very lovely as well.

Re: Rhode Island April 3, 2009

My first  time seeing Joe live was a great experience. My wife and I  have
a couple of Joe's tapes and We were finally able to catch him around this area.
He has UNBELIEVABLE TALENT. I haven't seen anyone play as Good and long
without breaks. He was like the energizer bunny on stage playing over 2 hours.
GREAT TIME can't wait to see him again.

Re: Rhode Island April 3, 2009

I am calling this my "Training for RAH" weekend.  Thursday night was Derek Trucks, last night Joe in Woonsocket, and finally tomorrow Joe in New Hampshire.  If I make it thru this weekend then the first weekend in May should be no problem.

Lucked out again and had great seats.  It is so cool to be so close to the stage that you can hear the strings being played.  Joe and the guys put on their usual great and very energetic performance.  It was funny to her Joe talk about his previous visits to Rhode Island - Bloodline played at Lupo's and 8 people showed up (including his Dad and the people who worked there) and then 3 years ago at Chan's which is right down the street from this theater (that was a memorable night - a double show featuring an Italian American Blues musician playing in a Chinese restaurant on St. Patrick's Day-that was my first time seeing a full Joe show).  Joe didn't mention if he went there to eat last night!  Joe was wearing the white suit that someone mentioned earlier in the week, and it made for some very different pictures.  (I'll get those up in the next day or two).  The new purple guitar came out for Mountain Time - it's pretty cool but I still miss the Gigliotti.  Only one acoustic song - maybe Joe hasn't replaced the guitar he gave away the other night yet?  And I finally got a pick!

Here's the set list (thank you Aaron):

Ballad of John Henry
Bridge to Better Days
Your Funeral My Trial
Blues Deluxe
Mountain Time
Last Kiss
So Many Roads
Another Kind of Love
Sloe Gin
Great Flood
Lonesome Road Blues
Happier Times
Woke Up Dreaming
Just Got Paid

Story of a Quarry Man
Asking Around for You  (only had to sshh people once-I almost made a noise just to see that again-it is annoying but funny)

Brought four newbies - 3 converts and the fourth one, well, that's his problem!

Very nice theater, hope to see Joe return here in the future. I liked it a lot better than some of the other places Joe has played in this area. Nice acoustics and lighting and a very big stage for Joe to run around on (the wireless was a little un-nerving but seems to be working well - I really didn't notice a difference in the sound).

Thank you Joe, Rick, Carmine, Bogie and all the backstage guys for another wonderful evening!  And the best part is I get to do it all again tomorrow night!
