Best thing i've ever had was a tascam trainer.  Load the mp3 onto it, plug in the guitar and slow it down on the trainer.  Works just like a pocket amp and doesn't keep the kids up at night as you use headphones. Best training tool ever.  About 150 on ebay.

I was looking into one of those tascam trainers myself.  Can you isolate the guitar track only?  Nothing is more annoying than trying to figure out a lick all the while trying to drown out the bass, drums, vocals, etc.
