Say what?

If I had to guess I'd go for college basketball, but I reckon I'm not the only one from across the pond who doesn't have the slightest idea what you're on about. neutral

Re: March Madness!

March Madness is right. I don't have a clue what its about but then again thats how most of my life has been so far. Whatever it is, Shred, I like your style.

George, as for us, well, we've got the ose damn Lillywhites in a week or 2. A real 3 pointer at the Lane. Those damn front wheels are trying to stump our Euro dreams and steal 7th spot.

Blimey, I don't understand any of that either! hmm

Re: March Madness!

Shredit,

I'm glad to see someone else is interested...its the best thing on TV all year!!  We almost flew to Boston for last night's game. Going back, did you see the Syracuse game I mentioned here.   http://www.jbonamassa.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=9645

My high school senior was accepted to Villanova this past Saturday so let me tell you, the way Nova took UCLA and Duke down in the 2 games since has been SWEET!  He has 2 female senior friends that were recruited by Duke's lacrosse when they were juniors and a Duke grad teacher at their school...all fun stuff.  There was an interesting read in the paper yesterday about how Duke is just not well liked at all in this area, although there is a strong pocket of supporters in New Jersey. Did you fill out a bracket?  Duke's coach K. did not appreciate Obama's comments, but Obama had Duke beating Villanova, no hard feelings Pres., 3 out of 4 Philly sports writers favored Duke...Personally, I think Coach K is a class act

Anyway, I support the original Big 5 Philly contingency, between me and my hubby, we went to 3 of those colleges, I spread my love around, but honestly since the early 80's the more successful ingredient in my marriage has been cheering on the Villanova Wildcats! (think biggest NCAA upset of 1985) The Big East Rules!!  Keep in mind Nova beat Pitt this season....Louisville is a power house and Pitino is a very good strategist, Nova was beating them by 10 at the half in the Big East playoff, Pitino knew exactly what to change up...Syracuse vs. Oklahoma will be a good game to watch and I'm refraining from making any comments about Bogie's team. big_smile  Love ya' Bogie!! Shred, did you hear about UConn's recruiting violations?

When you get a chance, you may enjoy this article about one of Nova's sophomores, Corey Fisher.  His great uncle owned the famous Apollo Theater in Harlem, became a heroin dealer and is in jail now.  Corey's mom made a lot of sacrifices to keep Corey down the straight and narrow, Corey did his part as well.

Re: March Madness!

Coach "K" will go down as one of the best coaches in college basketball history.  He is a class act because it's not just about basketball with him it is about education also.  Since he has coached Duke the Blue Devils in the NCAA Tournament in 24 of the past 25 years winning 3 NCAA Championships.
He has an 833-274(.753) win-loss record.

Two of his former players are really making an impact in the NBA.
Two I love watching very much from his 2001 Championship Team.
Shane Battier and Carlos Boozer.

And Good Luck to Gonzaga always my underdog that I pull for.

Re: March Madness!

I'm really happy this year. Mizzou's been doing well and after derailing Memphis last night... I'm finally hearing some attention being given where it's due. Mizzou has a relentless pace to the game and I think it's clear that we're not just a team with a weak schedule. MIZ-ZOU to the final four baby!

If we can get our pace going like we did last night, Marquette has no chance.

Re: March Madness!

Shredit, you're funny. lol I grew up sandwiched between 2 older brothers and 2 younger brothers and my only sis is 6 years younger, we watched alot of sports. Then I fell for a passionate college basketball fan and we got married during March Madness and Villanova went to the final four on our wedding day in '85. One of my brothers brought a small TV to our wedding reception  so the guys could watch Nova win, there were tons of Nova grads there. If you can't beat 'em , join 'em. big_smile

Tonight was probably the closest I came to having a heart attack watching the Pitt Vs. Nova game, what a nerve wracking game!  By coincidence the Phillies World Series Trophy has been rotating around to different places and this weekend its at the Villanova campus. smile

Jim, your team is scary good and Shred, I hope you didn't bet money on Arizona, I knew they were going down. wink

Re: March Madness!

Yes they seem to be playing very good now. So good I can't get a certain UNC fan to take any bets.

Actually that is the first game I have watched start to finish. I have watched bits and pieces. Blake Griffin is as good as anybody out there. I really don't pay any attention to basketball till the final four. We aren't usually in the running this late in the season.

Re: March Madness!

And there were 4.......as a sports enthusiast, there is no better time than the next 2 games.....hearts are broken, dreams come true and legacies are born

Villanova vs North Carolina

Michigan State vs Connecticut

The championship game will be ????

I have to give it up to a superior team. UNC toyed with us thourout the game before putting it away. Good luck and go Tar Heels.

I'm glad that my friend wouldn't take my action. The consequences for the loser would of been too embarasing.

Re: March Madness!

Jim,
I have to tell you, I felt sorry for Blake...he's almost a one man show by himself or a modified lone ranger... wink  What a player, he's incredibly talented and seems to have a very nice demeanor, not cocky or full of himself!  As a sidenote, I think the OK coach and Blake look very similar like father and son, when I saw them side by side in a press conference.

Re: March Madness!

Angela I wouldn't feel too sorry for Blake, the signing bonus and contract he'll receive when he goes pro should more than ease his pain. You couldn't miss his parents as the cameras zoomed in on them at every game. I'm pullin' for 'Nova since my cousin did his freshman year there. Ironically after my uncle passed away my cousins sold his house and Cleveland State bought it to house whoever was coaching their basketball team. Rollie Massimino was the first to live there.
