Topic: Pickup upgrade??

Hello all,  I'm new to forums and seen my first Joe B show in Louisville on March 6th....Intense to say the least...

Anyway, to my question, I am thinking about upgrading the pickups in my Schecter C-1 Classic, plays really well IMHO.. right now I have Seymour Duncan JB (SH-4)
& Jazz (SH-2n) which are the stock pickups.  They seem to be good pickups in their own right, but I just want to tinker with the sound a little bit and see what happens.....

I am really digging Joe's sound right now and I'm trying to capture a little bit of it myself...
I use  .052 -.011 strings.  I'm looking at the Burstbucker series or maybe a Duncan Pearly Gates.

Anybody have any experience and/or suggestions with anything?

How are the burstbucker pros??

Re: Pickup upgrade??

The Burstbuckers are fine pickups.  I have a Burstbucker Pro set in my old SG that sound great and a little hotter than the ones in my R8 Les Paul.  I still prefer the BB 1 & 2 set in my R8.  If you don't want to shell out over $200 for the Burstbuckers I would suggest checking out some Seymour Duncan '59s.  Joes guitars are based off of late 50's guitars that had PAF humbuckers so any PAF style low output pickup would probably get you in the ballpark.  BTW the JB/Jazz set is pretty cool as well.

'67 and '74 Fender Twin Reverbs, '74 Marshall 1987 lead mkII, Metro Superlead 100. Pedals from TC Electronic, Ibanez, Dunlop, BK Butler, Electro-Harmonix, Fulltone, Maestro/Gibson, Loopmaster switching, VoodooLab, Boss. Gibson and Fender guitars, Dimarzio pickups.

Re: Pickup upgrade??

Avoid Pearly Gates, that is - unless you wanna be like everybody else. People who buy that pickup want a unique sound but will nobody realizes it is not unique when everyone does it. That was a real bandwagon pickup for a while. Nothing against the pickups, I just roll everytime I hear someone got Pearly Gates pickups. I digress.

For you, I'd recommend Burstbuckers or even Seymour Duncan Antiquities. Although if you're playing a Schecter - you might want to try out EMG pickups.

Ask me about my handwound Great Lakes Guitar Pickups
Since 2010, Bonamassa fans have taken advantage of my JB friend discount = my cost + shipping. cool

I know a dude in Joehio who will, if you can verbalize the tone you have in mind, or you can show him a artist who's sound you want to emulate, or just talk with him and discuss what your trying for, and he will hand build / hand wind you a set of pups that will nail it. Money back no questions asked if your not happy. Jared's prices are more than reasonable for what he accomplishes. Or you can drain your savings trying to find "that" tone. Send me a message and I'll give you Jared's contact info.

Re: Pickup upgrade??

Hey, thanks for the advice ya'll......  Honestly after reading, playing and listening, my bridge pickup does pretty well I think....the neck pickup is the one that I am more interested in replacing....with something a little less thick and foggy if you will....It's the sh2n Jazz pickup so its understandable....I would really like something a little clearer....

Im interested in the custom thing mentioned.....I'm not very experienced with pickups so im not sure what I should do.....

Like I said I am a little.....no.....alot on the novice side when dealing with pickups.....

I just haven't played or heard enough of them to judge.

Re: Pickup upgrade??

put another JB in the neck too.  I've heard that being a good combo.
