Topic: Crazy Poor-Man's EV idea

Hey All,

So i've been fighting against getting EV's as they're pretty expensive and dang heavy... but I value Joe's comments about them giving back to you what you put into them (ie. "flat eq").   Then i had a thought:   isn't that the by-line for Line 6 cabinets?  The speakers in there are designed to be hi-fi and flat, so that when you're modeling a fender, it's relatively fender-y, and a marshall is decently marshall-y.   It would stand to reason then that they may share similar characteristics to EV's.  They're not as heavy either, and not nearly as expensive.   Any thoughts are on the merits of the Line 6 celestions found in their cabinets?

Re: Crazy Poor-Man's EV idea

It seems to me the speakers with Alnico magnets sound warm and smooth just like the pickups with the same magnets.  Ceramic magnets may give you a truer sound but older amps almost always had Alnico Magnets.  If you want super Clean sounds or even super heavy metal sounds Ceramic is the way to go, because they can handle more watts then the Alnico speakers.  As far as the line 6 cab...  Its a good cab, however if your sporting a high end amp with a ecno speaker cab your not going to feel its full potential.

Don't settle.  A lot of factors go into your sound.  With speakers cone size, mag size, voice coil size... everything matters.  Eminence tried to copy EV's design and they blew it...  Who cares what they weigh or what they cost.  Your getting what you want, you just have to save up.
