Topic: Figured out the strings on the JB LP's

I figured they were Gibson's own string brand being that most guitar manufacturers use their own strings from the factory.
Gibson also said that they use vintage .011's.

So to end all queries......

Gibson's website has these

Vintage Reissue Electric
SEG-VR11 Standard 11's .011 .014 .018p .030w .042w .050w

You can buy them here

They use their own strings for "normal" guitars, but did they also tell you that they use them for Joe's Signatured LP (Bonaguitar lol )

Most guitar makers don't make strings. They just have them branded. Not sure about Gibson but......

Gibson builds their own strings, but they are not really successful - I was told they too fast wear down, and they don't hold the tuning very well.
I never tried them...

I like the Gibson Vintage reissues...been using them for years (10's).  Long life with a nice smooth feel that lasts a while.  There a bit mellower than other string brands in my opinion(which I prefer).  I have been thinking of moving up to 11's soon.

Re: Figured out the strings on the JB LP's

I assumed they were D'Addario EXL116. The strings that came on my JB LP are .011 .014 .018 .030 .042 .052 and have colour coded ball ends  Silver,  Purple, Green, Black, Red, Brass respectively which is the convention D'Addario uses. Maybe I jumped to a conclusion too quickly and other manufactures use the same coding system. Don't think that the strings had been changed before it arrived though.

But I notice Joe says he is using Ernie Ball strings in recent interviews

I went off Gibson saying they put vintage .011's on them.

I just want to put the same ones back on after I oil the fretboard becuase the strings it came with do play well.

Re: Figured out the strings on the JB LP's

I don't know whats on JB's guitar stock but Erine Balls on his now.  Also Gibson makes very good strings.  B.B. King uses them, and every time I've used them the only complaint I had was that the nickle comes off the strings easily which would lead me to think they put heavy coats of nickle on their steel strings.  I think their as good as Ernie Ball.

Re: Figured out the strings on the JB LP's

I used Gibson strings throughout the mid-90's. The Les Paul strings had red yarn wrapped around the beginning of the string, near the ball end. And the Ace Frehley "hybrid" strings had black yarn.

I was just thinking those may top-wrap nicer because perhaps they wont chew up the tailpiece as much, where those little wrapped burrs sometimes stick out the back end.

I fluctuate currently between DR's and Ernie Balls. Ernie Ball now for a long time.

I too have heard that 90% of all string companies get their strings from the same factory. I don't want to believe it.

Re: Figured out the strings on the JB LP's

-Gibson strings may be great - I don't know. But some guitar shops don't sell Gibson strings cause they shall be "wear down too fast , and they don't hold the tuning very well".

But that doesn't matter cause I love using the Dean Markley 11-52! I don't know why Joe changed to Ernie Ball strings. I used them before I switched to Dean Markley, and I think they sound much better then Ernie Ball strings...
