Re: Milwaukee - March 8

That was just so much fun seeing Tallan onstage and performing brilliantly with AHEM!....
Joe's LP , made me smile and loved the true Rock Star Approach with little run up to the camera at end and his playing suited the song so perfect too plus that little lick as Joe was doing Acapella , cheeky

Great Vid/Capture  (am gonna watch it again  smile)

Roy - totally cool!  That kind of stuff gives me goose bumps and I wasn't even there. For sure Tallan will have some stories to tell his grandkids someday.  And what does this even say about Joe?

I'm with you on those back-to-back Joe shows. For some reason two hours of Mr. Bonamassa doesn't seem to be enough!

With the RAH and Hot August Blues gigs that will make 4 times this year; I hope to fit another in if Joe does any weekend shows in upstate this summer but somehow I don't think I'll ever catch up to some folks. But it sure is a heck of a lot of fun to try!!!

Thanks to all y'all for your reviews of a truly memorable night.
Roy, I grinned all the way through your footage of Tallan with the band, absolutely fantastic.
How cool of Joe to get Tallan up on stage and what a great job he did.
I don't know how you kept a steady hand Roy, I bet you were more nervous than Tallan!

I know some were expecting a lengthy review of last nights Milwaukee show and trust me, I will to do one. However, when a guy sees two of the greatest shows and an absolute fantastic guitar clinic all within 24 hours of one another, it takes a heck of a lot out of you. Last night around midnight, I called my work and told them I would be taking Monday off. To say I'm burnt out is an understatement, but give me a couple of days and I'll post a review complete with pictures and a little video. There is much to tell.....

Until then, I'd love to share two very special things that happened that I was lucky enough to capture on video. The first is what I've entitled, "Joe gives Tallan a lesson", and the other is, "Tallan's dream comes true". Both of these "happenings" were totally unplanned, spur of the moment things. On the second one when Joe leaned over and said, "Roy, on my signal boost Tallan onto the stage", I almost fell over. I'll post a review under a separate topic in a couple of days. But until then......

"Joe gives Tallan a lesson": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LvXf7tRh4U

AND

"Tallan's dream comes true": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeTX896ayCI

Enjoy,

Roy

P.S. The fist video was shot in Cascio Interstate Music's back room where they have some very special guitars. wink

If this whole "musican" thing doesn't work out for Mr. Bonamassa, I'd hire him to give my son guitar lessons smile  Very generous thing to do for a budding musician's confidence Joe.  Very nice!

Tripsy,

You're absolutely right when you said I was more nervous than Tallan. Honestly, Tallan was not nervous at all. And I'll admit, I tired to get Tallan and his Band to first, open for Joe and second, to get him up to do a number with Joe at the clinic. Because the schedule was so tight and the fact that there was no opening band, those things did not come to pass. That's why both Carl and I believed Tallan would not get a chance to do something with Joe.

The spot at the clinic just happened. Dave and Joe were shopping at Cascio's after the clinic and Carl, Tallan and I decided to step into their backroom to check out some pricey guitars. And there they were together. I think Carl mentioned something to the fact of Joe giving Tallan some pointers, so even though Joe was pressed for time, he sat down and showed Tallan a few things. Trust me, Tallan is a little spounge and when he's told something it goes right into his memory banks and it will be applied. That's what made this so cool. I should have entitled the piece, "The Current Teaches The Future."

The show experience was totally off the wall. No one, not Carl, Tallan or I saw it coming. And when Joe asked me to boost Tallan up when he signalled me, I couldn't believe it. What I wish everyone could have seen was Tallan's reaction; he jumped up in the air and started clapping. Once he went up there he just fell into what he normally does except he wasn't sure when to que in. Joe gave him a que or two and Rick, Carmine and Bogie just blended right in. The only little glitch which actually cracked Joe up was when Joe was singing at the end by himself and the band was quiet. Tallan just couldn't help himself and gave just a little left handed riff on Joe's guitar to echo Joe's singing. That's when it cracked up Joe and he started to laugh.

All I can say is, What A Moment! big_smile

Roy

P.S. This was all very cute, but when I post the review I'm sure I've got an absolutely cute picture of Bogie and Tallan sitting together watching a basketball game in the Turner Hall bar before the show. I hope to have it posted sometime by tomorrow night.

Joe is the Best!

Re: Milwaukee - March 8

When I first saw Joe shortly after the ANDY video was shot. I was impressed with Joe's playing but also his understated but sincere animation while playing. His mannerisms were fit the intensity with which he was playing.

As he has evolved as a guitar player he also has evolved as a performer. He is much more animated. He also plays much larger rooms. I also feel his confidence as a performer has grown. I remember the first time I noticed him with exagerated movement. It was at Joefest at the Majestic Thatre in Dallas which is a 2,500 seat theatre.

I would only agree with the observation that he has over done it if he ever fall to the ground in fake exaustion and the fellow band mates have to help him off the stage. You know George Thorogood/James Brown.

I don't think Joe will ever go the route of more Schtick than Lick. Right now he not only has the licks but a little schtick too. That is good.

I am a fan of Derek Trucks. Saw him a couple of weeks ago. Great player. About as exciting to watch as paint drying. I know I have seen a lot of paint dry. He was twice as animated as the last time I saw him with his band. At the rate he is going he will be as exciting to watch as Joe in about 250 years.

Joe entertains more than himself with his music and for that we should thank him.

Re: Milwaukee - March 8

I think Joes animations are spot on, to me it looks like he is really feeling what he is playing and with body language he saying 'are you feeling this because I am'. I get the same feed back when watching pete Townsend he can very townsend (although he can be very animated).
Its part of the 'Joe Package' great guitar, great songs, great to watch, all round entertainment:)

Re: Milwaukee - March 8

Great capture's Roy and a very informative session , especially liked the stories about Danny Gatton and the Joe's school teacher
Yeah Jim , JB Can confidently talk to an audience now which is great for that connection and adds to the enjoyment , you dont want a performer with no interaction , that can leave you cold sometimes  , That stage is where he is at his best and he is mastering the art very nicely

Thanks Roy for the Quality Vids

I've only been among Joe's following now for about 3 years, but I have noticed it too. He has taken his stage presence to another level. The man is just brimming with confidence and it really shows. Anyone who goes to a Joe show and comes away saying they didn't get their money's worth I think was there on the wrong night!

Roy, thanks for those videos.

I gotta say, it was good seeing everyone again from the Shank Hall days where we froze our butts off outside.  My significant other, Chrissie, would have come but couldn't take Monday off from work.

If some people want the audio to the show and can't register on Dime, I also put the show on etree:

Thanks for uploading the audio for this show. Excellent!

Re: Milwaukee - March 8

So I downloaded this show (thanks Belexes), and decided to play a little trick on my kid (the one who plays guitar and introduced me to Joe) by playing "Asking Around for You."  I had him listen to the second half of the song and try to guess who was playing.  Many famous guitar players were mentioned, but not Tallan.  He was amazed that it was a 9 year old!

Thanks Roy for the pictures and videos - how do you do both?  And thanks again to Belexes for uploading the show - I have already seen Joe play this set list and was so glad to be able to listen to it whenever I want.

Sandy

P.S. Fifty more days and counting!

"There's a lot of people that are in so much of a hurry to be, I guess, to be famous or that they don't want to take the time to learn to play and do all that. They'd rather just knock it down off a computer and maybe get on a game show and get famous..That's fine if that's what you want to do.

Very happy so many people grabbed my recording.  Even if you were not at this show, it's still worth a listen!
