Yes, fantastic performance last night!  We had a great view from the sixth row, close enough to walk out with one of the picks he tossed out toward the end of the show.  This was my first chance to see Joe live again since my wife and I "discovered" him in August 2005, when he opened for B.B. King at Deer Valley.  That was a memorable experience, as we hadn't heard him play prior to that, and of course, he absolutely blew us away ... but last night was equally memorable in its own right.  It was a first show for my next door neighbor and 21 yr-old nephew.  He gave us a wonderful blend of new cuts and JB classics.  Comment of the evening: He's not a musician, he's a magician!

I can't wait to see him play again!

I agree with the other posters.....great show at The Depot. A little disappointed with the venue set up. Why they had to have seats on the main floor I'll never know. How can you get into Joe's music stuck in a chair? Besides that, Joe put on a great show and finally had everyone up for his last few songs in this up tight town. It seems as though Joe's singing has become as great as his guitar playing and he's such an all around performer. I hope he'll consider coming back to town in the not too distant future.

The Depot is a great little 1200 capacity venue that I suggested to Joes’ management about a year ago would be a cool place for him to play, and to the Depots’ management that they need to get Joe to come play. Whether I had any influence matters not. I’m just glad he came and played!
We managed to get to say Hi to Carmine and also Bogie before the concert as they were walking, seemingly un-recognized, through the club. Very cool guys!
The set list, as posted above, remained the same, and the sound was perfect. Totally agree about the seating though. We’ve seen quite a few concerts here and were prepared to be belly up to the stage as usual but when we walked in the floor was covered with chairs. You put chairs, people will sit. Joe told a little story about the last (and only previous) time he came to Salt Lake City about 10 years ago. Apparently he was booked to perform at a small club and when he got there the owner confessed he hadn’t sold any tickets but that Joe was welcome to play anyway!
We took a couple of Bonama-virgins with us who are now pleased to be included in Joes’ ever-growing fan base.
Guitar-pick-flicking feat of the night: Someone from the balcony shouted something which I didn’t hear, but it obviously amused Joe who managed to throw a pick from the stage to level 2 of the club!
After the concert we got to talk to Rick and Carmine but, disappointingly, Joe did not make an appearance.
(Unless he was somewhere else and using Rick and Carmine as decoys!)

I didn't mind the seating, but I'm old now.  I brought my son who has not been a fan of the blues despite my best efforts, but was (as everyone seems to be) blown away and now wants me to take him to see Buddy Guy in Tahoe in June.  He might get his way on that one.  I'm interested in which type of interpretation of the blues is more to his taste.  As for me, I love both for different reasons.

One of the funny moments to me, though I don't think many heard it, was during the first slight break Joe took to chat with the crowd.  He was mentioning the only other time he headlined in Utah (he did open for BB a few years ago).  He started telling the story about that tour date that is mentioned a couple of posts up (this is the beginning part) .... 'the night was full of possibilities.  I might meet a girl'... at that point, someone near the right of the stage (Joe's left) yelled out 'You might meet two' which made him laugh.  On the 'You might meet two' comment and since this is SLC, someone behind me yelled out 'BIG LOVE' which cracked me up.  If at some point JB ever has the nickname 'BIG LOVE' stick to him, I can say I was there and saw/heard it as it happened the first time (not at all likely, but still a funny part of my experience that night).

Great show, phenominally talented and gracious man and now my son is becomming a fan.

I will agree with all the previous posts...What a great show.  This is my 2nd time to see Joe live, 1st was 2005 deer valley when he opened for BB King!!!  This was a great show and a great venue to see him in. I don't think there was a bad seat in the house, I know mine was great, 5th row center!!!
Joe if you read this I would like to personally thank you for playing "asking around for you", it holds a special place in my heart ever since the first time I heard it and am hoping to do what the song says when my time comes so THANK YOU!!!!  ONE OTHER THING .... PLEASE COME BACK SOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LET'S BRING JOE BACK TO SALT LAKE THIS SUMMER!!!

Hey neighbors, I noticed that Joe will be back in this part of the country early August for the Mile High Blues Festival.  I also noticed that the Red Butte Summer Concert schedule is still in need of late-summer shows!

I've never started a web campaign before, but maybe we can convince Red Butte's promoter to book Joe in August.  The promoter's name is Chris Mautz.  Here is his e-mail address: chris.mautz@redbutte.utah.edu

I'm writing Chris as soon as I finish this post to inform him of this happy coincidence.  I'll also note the fact that Joe's latest album debuted #1 on the blues charts (again), and that he just played a fantastic gig at the Depot, undoubtedly winning hundreds of new local fans!  I personally know half a dozen people who are sorry they missed that show!

Anyway, please take a few minutes and send Mr. Mautz a note!  And ask everyone you know who might like to see Joe come back this year to do the same!

Great idea Tyra! I am sending an e-mail to Chris Mautz as well, I agree, I think Red Butte would be a wonderful venue. I loved the show last Saturday. I was on the 3rd row center, and loved every minute of it! I would have to say it was the best show I have ever been to!Let's all band together and bring him back to SLC!
