Of all the stars in the blues galaxy, his shines the brightest. Can we agree on that?

Another passion of mine is single malt Scotch whisky.
I just received today a limited edition bottling of Ardbeg (my absolute favorite). There is no age statement on the bottle. The strength is at 58.9% abv. It was obviously matured in ex-bourbon casks. What is unique about it is that the malt (germinated barley grain) has been peated to an astonishing 100 parts per million. Likely most of you have never sampled a heavily peated whisky. Some may have tried Laphroaig. That is peated to 30 ppm. That smoky peaty thing going on in your Johnnie Walker Black? Multiply that tenfold. We're talking blinding peat here. We're talking pack your gums with Canadian sphagnum and some creosote scraped out of your chimney and then swish around some Bacardi 151 in there. Only much better. lol

As it was the first time I heard Joe's music, this is just blowing me away.
Now I have two supernovas in my universe. Amen!

John Jameson was Scottish:) but obviusly well know for Irish Whisky (Jack Daniels was originaly brewed in wales).

Ardbeg do make a good malt, my father and I have built quite a collection of malts and did have a bottle of the Ardbeg single cask (all gone and lovely), which is very rare indeed but would never pay the asking price for it (which is obscene). I dont think this was sold in the USA.
Comparing Joe to a fine malt is pretty cool:)

  fave is MAKERS MARK. dont get me wrong Im no expert or
  connisour but JOES music and whisky are a good combination

Mix bourbon, whiskey, brandy and scotch and drink heavily while playing Sheepshead with friends. I did that one time as a very young man of illegal drinking age. It cured me! I have never touched any of it since. It's been darn year 40 years now and even the smell of it makes my stomach turn. The only hard liquor I drink now is vodka, but always as a mix in bloody marys or rarely with cranberry juice. Although I must admit, I do so love a glass or two of a good red wine. wink

It's funny you mention Makers Mark because it's one of the smallest distilleries in the U.S.  The Samuels family, that have owned the distillery for over seven generations, have family ties to the infamous outlaw, Jesse James.  I've visited the place a number of times and they give great free tours of the place.  You can even dip your own bottle in wax and put your name to it.  Kentucky is loaded with an abundance of bourbon distillers: Jim Beam, Wild Turkey and Woodford Reserve to name a few.  I like Makers Mark, but if I had to choose one I'd go with Woodford Reserve.  There's also a number of fine single barrel whiskeys in central Kentucky that are even better - I was told by someone at a rival distiller that Blanton's single barrel whiskey is the finest in America.  After imbibing it I'd have to agree with him and say that's the one I recommend.  It's in one of the coolest bottles too.  They have a website where you can investigate.

I can't really say about bourbon. There's just something about corn that I don't like in my beer or whisky. All personal preference tho I guess. Friends of mine are all agog about The Buffalo Trace Antique Collection. The George T. Stagg is a cask strength bourbon, usually bottled at 15 years (quite old as most bourbons are bottled at 10 years or younger) and the strength is usually around 70% abv. It doesn't need any water either! big_smile I like the rye whisky from that range, the Thomas H. Handy. Maker's Mark is a wheated bourbon (they use wheat for the third grain in the mash rather than rye).

Yes the Glenmorangie is a good dram. Trouble is there are so many single malts out there it's tough to get to them all!

     I am bringing my family to Florida. last time I was over
     found a neat liquor store that played mostly Zappa music
     every time I visited , wife had to drag me out LOL.
