Topic: new kid in town
Hello,
Quick presentation
- Wim Van Wassenhove, belgian, flemmish (Dutch speaking), living in France (Nice, Cote d'Azur) since 2000 (gush, 9 years already!!)
- Research engineer in risk sciences, Ecole des Mines de Paris.
- Hobbies : bonsai, reef aquarium and ducati motorcycles (racing, mechanics)
I used to play in a little band back in Belgium, but since I live in France, my gibson les paul classic and fender stratocaster plus merely served as a decoration in the living room, the marshall JCM 800 4212 combo gathered dust...
Since Xmas last year, I began to play the guitar again on a more regular basis.
So I bought a Epiphone SG custom (3 micros) did a correct setup of trus rod and action, changed stopbar and tailpiece for a tone pros set, swapped my gibson 500T and 496R mics of the les paul classic plus a new 490T into the epi, changed the pots for RS guitarparts ones. Now she's not bad at all, great sound and plays well! The les paul hereted of a 57' zebra and a P90 (I modified the P90 a bit to fit it in the les paul, but I will probably change this for an other 57'...) and RS guitarworks pots also as oil/paper caps.
I bought a second hand mesa boogie V-twin pedal, looking for a different sound...
In the mean time, I stumble on this:

Jesus!!
I fell of my chair...
The music I like and that sound, a powerfull les paul sound just whatI looked for! And who the #### is Joe that I didn't ever heard of him???? (I must say that since I live in France, music is on stand by, I didn't explore new things, I stuck with my led zeps, rory gallaghers, allman brothers and jimi hendrix...).
I quickly filled the gap in my musical knowledge
So I'm here!
I never go at concerts, but Joe, when you pass at Nice (France) I surely will go to see you!
So, very nice but Joe got me puzzled in a way that I couldn't sleep any more... How does he get his fabulous sound?
Next step, I got to the store to test amps.
Fell in love with the blackstar artisan 15, but I have to separate me from my JCM800 to finance... Tested a lot of pedals on the blackstar, didn't found Joe's sound... I figured out "Another kind of love", and you need a thick sound to play this...
Last night, after browsing through this forum, revelation!! Joe plays with several amps, boss DD3 a bit of TS808 so if I buy an artisan 15 head (get rid of the mesa boogie to finance), keep the JCM800 I can play with the JCM800 plugged in one of his 12" speakers, the artisan head will be playing through the other 12" speaker of the Marshall (Eventualy swap it for a celestian vintage 30 speaker). This will give me a lot of possibilities of sounds. A bit like Joe's home set up with his Marshall 25th anniversary and Fender 65 princeton. Even if I don't find 'the sound of Joe', there will be enough to amuse me, I think... (--> comments on this welcome!)
So this was my little presentation!
Cheers,
wim06.
