Topic: Help with new site please

As mentioned in an ealier post I have hooked up with a fantastic young blues outfit Virgil and the Accelerators. Just designed a web site for them and could do with some constructive critism please. NOTE the video/audio is poor quality and old stock, they have a new line up now, but it does show virgil on the guitar (I believe when he was 13/14). We are working on some new and better quality recordings. General feedback abo the site itself is what I am after http://www.virgilandtheaccelerators.com

If anyone has seen them (Ian and Paul??) and can leave positive feed back please do (if not positive please let me know!!!)

The band is young and exciting with unlimited potential, great reviews from the right places and just branching out from Wales. Just the type of thing we need to get behind:)

Thanks in advance.

Re: Help with new site please

Consider it done Martin!! Nice looking site too, good job.

Both me and Paul Snr. were highly impressed by them. Saw that they are supporting The Carvinator soon, what a travesty that is....he should be supporting them in my opinion!!! I saw him at the Limelight a while ago, and was not overly impressed...way too flashy and in your face for my liking....I do hope he's toned it down a bit since then. Anyway....rant over.... yikes

Yes it does look good, good to see another good young act playing blues rock to a good standard, Virgil and the Accelerators will help keep the likes of Oli on their toes! I look forward to seeing them live sometime!

Re: Help with new site please

I had a look at the site with the array of browsers I use to test my own and everything looks fine.

I got a completely different looking site in Firefox 3 and IE 7 but that's due to the fact that I got the "text only" version in IE as I have an old Flash player installed (I only use IE for testing). So, in case you were wondering, the text version DOES come up if Flash 8 is not installed in IE. I thought your "reqiuirements" page was a nice touch showing me what I have missing. Interestingly, the NON-text version comes up with Opera 9 with an old Flash version although the Flash movie itself doesn't work (but that's only going to be a very small audience).

So, a good job and a good looking site. The band are a bit tasty too.

Re: Help with new site please

Great sound from that band and Virgil's guitar work from a pretty shoddy mobile phone recording sounded very good Rock/Blues, And as Duncan said will chase Oli & Joanne hard with that grittier sound

Nice job Martin, the site looks very good.
I hope to get a chance to see these guys soon. They sound very exciting.

Re: Help with new site please

Very smart looking site there Martin - well done for taking the initiative.
Virgil and the boys have what it takes no doubt about that. It's all about that next big step for them, and it's great that you've taken the time to help them make it.

From what I've witnessed of them so far (two support slots at the Robin) they have the raw elements of an act that could go far. What Virgil needs to do now is take a leaf out of Oli Brown's book, and think about developing his own style into something that will really get noticed. Virgil is still very young, and I would say is not yet the finished article, but I fully expect him to be headlining clubs like the Robin in a couple of years. It's great to see young guys like him picking up the guitar and playing red hot blues.

I see they are from Aberystwyth and it looks like they have a regular gig there each month. My son is at uni there - I've already told him to get some of his mates down there to have a listen after the Easter break. Guess that's me street teaming eh? wink

Re: Help with new site please

Totally agree with everything you say. The Oli gig was only second gig out of thier home 'comfort zone'. It was only the 2 or 3rdgig with the new line up too. They have quiet a following in wales and the perfomances much more conifident.
What excites me is that they are so young, playing good solid blues but as you say still raw with bags of potential that they are more than capable of filling. Each band member is very competant. Virgil of course on guitar, his brother Gabriel drums currently touring Irleland with a jazz setup, Tom on bass - very knowledgable musician and good vocals too.
Thanks everyone for your replies, nice and positive which means I am on the right track. Trying to branch out on venues now, probably too late to catch the festivals but we try.

Nice site Martin and the band sound very good. It's good to see some young Hot Dogs into the genre.

How about a Guestbook for visitors to leave comments ?
