Topic: Crybaby vs. VOX wahs

I just read that Joe is using "JB Crybaby Wah" - and previously I thought he was using a VOX wah. Why the change? endorsement?

I've got a VOX wah and a Morley wah. I just heard I can adjust the optics on the Morley to get a better sweep... but we'll see if it can match the range of the VOX wah. I got nothing against Crybabies, besides the fact I don't own one.

Have heard "some" say in the past that they
like the Vox, but they don't last on the road

I dig the Crybaby myself

Re: Crybaby vs. VOX wahs

Vox all the way.  I tried about every model Crybaby, Morley, etc and the standard Vox was the best overall tone/value.  The only one that was "better" to my ears was a Clyde McCoy which has true bypass.  I personally dig the old switches because it warms everything up.  The Vox had the best sweep, range, tone, and feel for me.  I've also had mine for over 4 years without any problems at all.  BTW this was before I knew Hendrix, SRV, and Joe used one so no bias because the "Big Boys" used them.  I think the Bad Horsie is a good idea but it just wasn't for me, and the Crybaby Classic is my favorite Crybaby that would more than do in a pinch.  I'm sure a Fulltone Cyde or Teese are very nice but I can't justify that kind of money for a pedal that just goes "WAH WAH WAH WAH". hmm

Re: Crybaby vs. VOX wahs

In the issue of Guitar Player with Joe Bonamassa  on the cover there is a Fight Club that compairs just about all the Great brands of wah pedals.  All of them got good reviews but the BBE wah pedal for the money they said was the best value.

$149 street price, Great all around wah with a expressive vocal vintage leaning tone with no concerns.  Straight from the artical.

I had a Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Cry Baby and it sounded good but after 8 years of use the pedal started to not hold its position if like I left it on with the pedal half mass.  it would rock back to the lowest point as soon as I removed my foot.  I haven't had a Wah Pedal in 2 years because of that reason alone.  I sold it as soon as it started doing this with plans of buying a new pedal but I just havent been into wah that much lately.  It seems like any rock songs coming out now have too much wah in them for my taste and its a bit over done these days.  So I'm standing very distant of wahs.  I think when I do get one I'll go with a Ernie Ball Pedal because it is belt driven and not gear driven which failed me after a while.  Plus the review on them sounded great.

Re: Crybaby vs. VOX wahs

My father just purchased the BBE and it's a cool wah with many advantages over others currently on the market.  True bypass, LED, Q control, Good construction, sounds good....I just don't really care for the way it feels when you step on it.  It feels a little grainy and grindy when you rock it back and forth compared to my Vox which is like butta.  The range is greater on the BBE and it has a lot of features for a wah.  I recommend it. BTW 8 years from a $150 pedal, I think you got your money's worth there...that's less than 20 bucks a year!

Re: Crybaby vs. VOX wahs

Oh I'm sure if I kept it the part that needed replacing would have been $20 repair, but I had it and it wasn't working like it used to and I thought I'd try something new.  I'm still waiting on that something new.  Oh well.

4 words: Fulltone Clyde Deluxe Wah

I've owned countless wahs over the years. This one has NOT left my pedalboard in 4 years!!
