Topic: Question about this pick guard...

On this video of "Story Of A Quarryman", Joe, at first glance seems to be playing his JB les paul, but why is the pick guard white???

Maybe it's a stupid question...

Re: Question about this pick guard...

Because it's not a JB signature LP?

Looks like a Standard Goldtop.

Re: Question about this pick guard...

When i saw him in PA, im pretty sure the truss rod cover said BONAMASSA and it was aged, i think he just put white plastic on it... maybe its in a different tuning or something...

Re: Question about this pick guard...

It's definately a JB signature, check out the bridge pickup volume/tone knobs.  I agree his tech probably put a different pickguard on it for either alternate tunings.  There could be other reasons...who knows?  We DO know that our boy Joe likes to change things up for no reason other than he gets bored!  I like it either way, more classic with the white PG IMO.

Re: Question about this pick guard...

I don’t think it's a JB Les Paul. The pickguard on the JB model is not the standard Les Paul size pickguard, you can’t just stop at the local guitar shop and pick one up. The standard pickguard will not fit between the pickups. I have been trying to find a replacement pickguard for my JB Las Paul and it’s been a nightmare, trust me. Besides everyone you see playing a Gold Top today has the white pickguard Joe’s is definitely much better in my opinion.

The switch for the pickups and around the pickups on the video is changed also. I think it’s Joe's original that Joe used as the model for  the Joe Bonamassa inspired Les paul.

Take care
Bill

I agree. You got in before me with the thing about the other plastic parts!

Re: Question about this pick guard...

Didn't the prototype have a black pickguard as well?  Either way making a replacement out of pickguard material is very easy, someone made me one for my 70's SG in less than half an hour (they are very different from the '61 RI and current SG models).  I definately think it is a way to differentiate it from the rest of the sigs, perhaps the prototype is his favorite?  Still looks good classic or black.

Re: Question about this pick guard...

It seems a bit overkill to replace the scratchplate, pickup surrounds and toggle switch surround just to denote a different tuning?

Well plus "Story Of A Quarryman" is in standard so I don't know.
