Topic: Robert Plant : "No Zeppelin Without Bonham"

Robert Plant said in an interview with Absolute Radio that Led Zeppelin can't reunite for a tour or an album because they feel incomplete without drummer John Bonham.

"The reason that it stopped was because we were incomplete, and we've been incomplete now for 29 years," he said.

It's just another nail in the coffin for hopes of a reunion that has been rumored about and speculated upon since the band performed a one-time-only concert in 2007.

Plant also admitted that it would be very difficult to do justice to the band's legacy, which was "fired by youth."

“The disappointment that could be there once you commit to that and the comparisons to something that was basically fired by youth and a different kind of exuberance to now, its very hard to go back and meet that head on and do it justice,” he said.

Plant added that it was important to “guard the discretion” of the band's past material and “make sure that you have all the reasons in the right place to be able to do something with absolute, total conviction.”

“I mean, if my great award is to do this, then I don't want to do anything where we challenge what we did in the first place by just going back and visiting it without having a new, fresh makeover start."

Re: Robert Plant : "No Zeppelin Without Bonham"

So to summarize:

Plant says no Zeppelin without JOHN Bonham
Jeff Beck says no Zeppelin without Plant
Jack Bruce says Zeppelin always sucked
Coverdale says he is available

My guess, it will happen without Plant and be called NOT Zeppelin....

You Can Do Anything You Want To Do

Re: Robert Plant : "No Zeppelin Without Bonham"

I can't stand listening to Robert Plant try to sing Zeppelin anymore. He has lost all of his upper register and even though they tune down, he still can't come close on the high notes. There are many other singers who sing Zeppelin better who could do the songs justice. Pat Monihan from Train (don't laugh until you've heard him) sings it dead on. I've also heard Chris Robinson did a great job when Page toured with the Black Crowes, but I haven't heard that one, as well as many unknown singers. It may not be the real Zeppelin, but at least the songs will sound better.

I don't blame him for not wanting to do it. He's playing music now that suits his voice better and that he enjoys playing. And he has a very successful album with Allison Krauss (5 Grammy nominations). Why try to rehash the past, and sound bad doing it?

Re: Robert Plant : "No Zeppelin Without Bonham"

Tend to agree. Planty hasn't been keen at all and he's moved on. As to other singers, Swiss rockers Gotthard do a great version of Immigrant Song and Steve Lee the singer can really nail it. But there are lots of other too I would guess

Wasn't there some talk about Myles Kennedy?

No Hits, No Hype.......................Classic Rock Jan 2012

Re: Robert Plant : "No Zeppelin Without Bonham"

Let us not forget....that it was Plant who brought Bonzo with him  to the party....A lifelong friend...gone forever.....a rock legend/bandmate/brother/unreplacable!.....I personally agree with Robert Plant.....as much as I would love to see the greatest foursome in rock history again.... one of them is gone....it wouldn't be the same.

As far as a replacement singer is concerened-I have no interest to see it or hear it. I think Journey SUCKS now!! God forbid this should happen to Led Zeppelin.

Lets just think for a minute....What if?......What if John Bonham were alive today and Zeppelin were still together?......Plants' vocal range today would more than likely just be a side note to our conversations....."He's not hitting the high notes anymore", but the show was great! Man I'm diggin the new albumn.....not to be.....sadness forever.

I like when Page jams with other bands today. I would like nothing more than to see him again, but I have absolutly no desire to see him and JPJ along with young Bonham become a kariokee band for some guy from the Phillipines who can immitate robert Plant from 40 years ago but has to learn the songs phonetically because he dosen't speak english.

As far as areplacement singer of some current stature....I'll pass.....I'm with Robert on this one.

Re: Robert Plant : "No Zeppelin Without Bonham"

There aint no Zep without Plant or Bonham (fair enough his son his an accomplished drummer). If you werent lucky enough to see them first time round whats the point in having a different singer, thats just karioke. If anyone thinks the Zep can run without the original lineup, then they just dont get what it was all about and thats a shame.
Plant lives not far from me (Bonham was even closer) and over the years I met him many times (twice at a small village hall concert with a crowd of around 40 people!!). From many conversations I never once thought they would perform again. The 02 was under exceptional circumstances as a thankyou to someone who very much helped them.
