I got some reliable info on the BDS situation. Davy will continue as BDS with some new faces in the line up and the split with Adam & Ross was very amicable. It is of everybodies opinion involved that it's all gonna work out fine. As fans of Joe's we should be painfully aware that you can't keep a smokin' guitar player down. How many personnel changes has Joe made in his career thus far? Sometimes it is necessary to shake things up to keep the creative juices flowing, for chrissakes how many sidemen have say Clapton and Beck worked with? As far as BDS not playing Europe, as of yet, one must keep in mind that the band has been on a helluva roll here in the past 2 years growing a fan base and playing to ever increasing crowds which equates to selling more product. Which brings me to the fact that is first and foremost, THE BOTTOM LINE, this is a business venture. BDS' label is based here and they see results in the states and obviously want to nurture that growth. There will be those who turn their back on Davy for trying to grow, IMO that's their choice, but also their loss too.

I'm not turning my back as I don't want Davy to grow, I've always supported their US campaign as shown by my posts here and I think they have been an inspiration to other British musicians that they can make progress in the US. However I think he could be growing his fan base further by playing some dates in the UK and Europe, had he been prepared to do so, I guess the band would still be together.  A month or so of touring this side of the Atlantic would not have had an adverse effect on their career in the US.  You know if it was not for Joe's forum, I'd never have heard about BDS. They are not in our British magazines, their songs are not heard on the radio, they don't feature on internet forums and their albums are not in the shops. That's not because they were not good enough, but because they have never had a profile over here in Europe.  The worrying development for Davy would be that if in the future things to not turn out how he and his label hope, then he has no fall back option, other than touring small bars.

So for me its not actually the split that matters, there are plenty of good bass players and drummers around, its the reasons behind it that have caused me to be disillusioned.   So for an American it could look like good decision making, when you look at the whole picture I'm not so sure.

Re: Back Door Slam....

OH Dawg, you mentioned Beck and Clapton and even Joe constantly changing out their supporting cast. These people also had self-titled bands. Back Door Slam always seemed more to me as a "band" than a Davy Knowles solo project. Rolling Stones, Aerosmith,Led Zeppelin are guitar slinging bands that have had stable lineups for the most part. If Mic Jagger was the only original member from the Stones, they probably wouldn't be held in the same regard as they are with the all original lineup, that's why he has  self-titled solo projects.

For me, Back Door Slam was more of a gestalt allure (more than simply killer guitar and vocals.) 2/3 of the band will be changed is a sad reality. I hope the replacements are subjectively fitting.

Nic is right...actually you all are.  I am too.  I sing, I arrange, I compose, I play with my p...Um, er.

Jane Dear:  You're making sense again.  Stop scaring me.  Oh shoot, I owe you a Hot Sauce...want one to straighten your hair?  Or one you can eat?  Email please.

Blues From the Bottoms only has two perm-a-members.  Me and my deaf drummer.  I want it to be a band.  Oh well.  Susan tell Ken to join us...be your best friend.

I guess my somewhat cavalier take on the whole deal is they are so young.  If Adam is writing,  could be good.  They might all be best buds still.

Remember there were only 1000 produced so this is a collector's item! Seeing this will hemp me remember what a great band BDS were.

Re: Back Door Slam....

It's an interesting video.  Adam is not the bass player [although he does join in during a jam at the end-he also first shows up standing on the sidelines watching and dancing - pretty weird - kind of like watching a movie where you know the ending].  They all look so young - hard to believe since they still all look about 14.  Davy had "the voice" even though this was made 2 or 3 years ago.  Interesting to see the growth as musicians - like watching a video of your kids when they were younger.

Re: Back Door Slam....

I've recently heard privately from all three Lads. To say I was disappointed initially that Back Door Slam was breaking up would have been an understatement. Now, I look at it as not an ending, but a new beginning for Davy, Adam and Ross. Yes, we will all see them again.........separately, but we will see them! smile

I just hope Davy, Adam and Ross always remain the best of friends. I wish the three of them well.

I wish I knew when he got his amazing voice!  I was just referring to the fact that the video being discussed was made in 2006, and it is unusual for someone who is only 18 to have such an awesome voice.  I agree, he is an AMAZING singer.
