Topic: Back Door Slam....

Just received an E-mail indicating Back Door Slam is breaking up. Here is the announcement:

AN IMPORTANT  MESSAGE FROM  DAVY ADAM AND ROSS

"Dear Friends and Back Door Slam Family:

After much thought and soul searching, we have reached the painful decision that we should part ways at this time.  The decision was the hardest of our lives, but it's one we believe had to be made in order for each of us to move forward creatively and musically.

We will each continue with our own musical projects and hope to fulfill our own musical ambitions; Davy will be working on a follow up to the the first Back Door Slam album "Roll Away", and will be touring the US to support and promote the record, and Ross and Adam will be embarking on new projects of their own in the UK and Europe, so please keep checking backdoorslam.com for news about each member of the band, and upcoming album releases.

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has followed Back Door Slam over the last few years and shown their support for the three of us.

Davy, Adam and Ross"

Joe is the Best!

Re: Back Door Slam....

I too am sorry to hear this, but I don't think anyone's surprised.  Davy may be the most promising of a very large group of great artists across the pond.  The first question that pops into my head is who's going to be climbing with him up the ladder of success?  I've always dreamed of a modern twin-guitar band that had a great singer/songwriter.  Davy's the music equivalent of A-Rod.  The two bandmates leaving because of homesickness reminds me of another trio break-up fifty years ago.  Think someone wrote a song about the singer /songwriter in that band.

Re: Back Door Slam....

I think I might cry.... I'm stunned.

I understand his teammates were referring to A-Rod as A-Fraud! (Joe Torres book)
Not that it has anything to do with BDS.
Sorry to hear the boys are splitting...I too am not surprised.

Re: Back Door Slam....

That is TERRIBLE!?

Why can't bands stay together?
Don't even get me started!!!

I thought they'd get a little bit 'bigger' before they decided to part ways. I want them all to keep making music and maintain/improve their level of exposure to the world. Thats the least I'll ask for.

I agree. I think Davy will do well, but if by some long shot he doesn't and he gets lost in the sea of musicians somewhere... it'll be a crying shame.

Well I must echo the responses above. Very sad to hear but like most everyone else, not surprised.  Wish them well.

Take care everyone. And if I don't meet you no more in this world
Then ill, I'll meet you in the next one and don't be late, don't be late

Re: Back Door Slam....

a shame, but that is the way of blues trios.  you put it that way joe broke up with his band a few years back, but no one says it that way because it was just his name.  I can't really say I'm surprised.  I guess next we'll be seeing him as davey knowles the solo act.  I don't think there will be much of an impact on the music, I'm not entirely sure on this but i believe davey wrote every single one of their original songs.   best of luck to all of them

Re: Back Door Slam....

Yes, I kind of felt this might happen too. Davy, great singer and song writer that he is has clearly becoming smitten with the American bright lights, big city and possibly an American lady too... The fact that he he spent the Xmas period in the US while Ross and Adam were in the UK was significant, and I was surprised that the band head immediately headed back to the USA to record their next album when the indications were that they would be doing some activity in the UK.  Good luck to Davy, whether he regrets in later years turning his back on the target market in the UK and Europe I can't say, but I hope Adam and Ross find themselves a good new band. Sad news, but not a great surprise.

Re: Back Door Slam....

This is unfortunate news. Ever since I was introduced to them at the back end of '07 I've been waiting for a chance to see them live.

The focus, inevitably, has always been on Davey Knowles as the vocalist, guitarist and writer. His wishes regarding the future direction, musically and locationally, would have always carried the most weight.

They have made a lot of headway using the BDS moniker. I would have thought it might be practical to keep it going. "Davey Knowles' Back Door Slam" perhaps?

The music was/is great. The fire still burns. Good luck to all three of them.
