Re: Back Door Slam....

I also got the email message, and I'm not surprised.  I saw them twice this past autumn, the second time was their last show of the tour at the Fillmore.  From the expressions on Adam and Ross's faces we just had an inkling of an idea that the three had different ideas on where to go with the band.  Davy did get most of the press, and he seemed to really enjoy touring in the US, while the rest of the band less so.  It's a big drain, and it's not for everyone.

I wish all three the best of luck, and I hope to see them continue and what they do.  I'll definitely be in the audience if Davy comes back to the area on tour.

Re: Back Door Slam....

The way the email was worded leads me to believe that Davy will continue on with the Back Door Slam name. If he's working on a follow up to the Back Door Slam Roll Away album. He would be crazy not to.

He really was the main draw and songwriter anyway. He wouldn't miss a beat if he uses the same name with new members. It would be a tougher road if he tries to start as a solo without the name recognition.

Re: Back Door Slam....

I'm a bit sad that I didn't get the chance to see them play live but that's life! I'm sure Davy will carry on and go from strength to strength. Maybe oneday he will tour the UK with a new band. Good luck to them all.

Re: Back Door Slam....

I'm saddened by this news, but not shocked in the least. The first time I saw these guys Davy stuck out like a sore thumb(remembering the bloody thumb last Oct.) and the 4 gigs after it was all Davy. I had many laughs and good cheer with Adam & Ross and will miss them dearly and I wish them all the best. They say bad news comes in three's, I got word a close friend passed away Sat. in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where he moved to 8 years ago, then read of Billy Powell's passing, and now this too. Too much bad Ju-Ju in the air.

Re: Back Door Slam....

Yeah more sad news that Back Door Slam have disbanded , But as a few have stated earlier Davy was happy in the US With Life and GF ,  and Adam & Ross i guess were homesick from being away from Isle of Man for long stretches , Good luck to Adam and Ross in their future projects and wish them well.
Davy , This is interesting he is so multi-talented , writing , guitar playing , singing , Keen to see what way he chooses to come back ... i'm sure we will

I hadn't heard this before today. That's too bad, but I do hope Davy continues on with the name. He was fantastic to watch.

That may not be as far fetched as you might think Nic knowing Davy and having met Amber. When I met her in Naperville this past July, it was very apparent that he was smitten with her and she with him. Then they spent the holidays together in the Chicago area. Put yourself in his shoes. Is it possible he found the love of his life in the Chicago area? Answer: Maybe. Then you're faced with going back to the Isle and then on a world tour without her. Does the potential of the group outweigh the feelings of true love?

Hey, don't get me wrong, I could be way off base. But the last time I saw and spoke with them in November, there was no indication at all that this was the direction they would take. We may never know for sure and you know what? We really don't need to know.

I do know for certain that Davy is continuing on the sequel to the album "Roll Away" and that the future band lineup will be different. I will miss that particular combination of Davy, Adam and Ross though.

P.S. It's also possible that I'm just an old sap too. wink

Who cares?  I loved the band, but everyone knows Davey was the talent and driving force there.

It was like when Indigenous broke up...I liked the rest of the band, but I was always there to see Mato.

Re: Back Door Slam....

As people will know on here, I’ve been a fan at a distance of back Door Slam since I first heard them, indeed I’ve strongly stuck up with them when I’ve felt they’ve been unfairly criticised in the past.

I have little doubt that Davy will be able to find some other good, if not better musicians to work with in the future than Ross and Adam, and hopefully for him he will continue to be a success in the USA. For me now though, I will have no further interest in his career.  From the band's statement it’s clear that Ross and Adam were looking to spend more time in UK and Europe while Davy is solely focussed on the USA. It may seem I’m turning my back on Davy, but the truth is he has turned his back on us (in the UK). If Davy was a young American artist I could accept this, as he is from an area very close to my own, I can't understand it. It’s a risk he is taking too as if for some reason Davy is not as successful as he hopes to be in the USA, he has no fall back option back here in the UK where he is pretty much unknown.

I’m very disappointed that I never saw the real Back Door Slam live. I’m a fan of live music and will continue to support bands that tour near me; hopefully this will include Adam and Ross in the future.

Re: Back Door Slam....

I'm unsure many people at all saw the "original" Back Door Slam. They had a guitar player that died, and Davy was just the singer from what I heard. They decided to continue with Davy as the lone singer/guitarist. Maybe it just wasn't the same without rhythm guitarist Brian Garvey who died in a car crash in 2004. And the song "Stay" is about him.

Re: Back Door Slam....

I got some reliable info on the BDS situation. Davy will continue as BDS with some new faces in the line up and the split with Adam & Ross was very amicable. It is of everybodies opinion involved that it's all gonna work out fine. As fans of Joe's we should be painfully aware that you can't keep a smokin' guitar player down. How many personnel changes has Joe made in his career thus far? Sometimes it is necessary to shake things up to keep the creative juices flowing, for chrissakes how many sidemen have say Clapton and Beck worked with? As far as BDS not playing Europe, as of yet, one must keep in mind that the band has been on a helluva roll here in the past 2 years growing a fan base and playing to ever increasing crowds which equates to selling more product. Which brings me to the fact that is first and foremost, THE BOTTOM LINE, this is a business venture. BDS' label is based here and they see results in the states and obviously want to nurture that growth. There will be those who turn their back on Davy for trying to grow, IMO that's their choice, but also their loss too. God knows I've seen a number of people do the same thing to Joe over his decisions, some have actually stuck around just to whine about it. Hey, life goes on and so does the fickle music industry.

Re: Back Door Slam....

Much ado about nothing.  Unless they sing, write, arrange, or produce; like it or not, bass players and drummers are a commodity in the music business.

It doesn't matter what I think.
