Topic: Boss DD-7 Digital Delay

I'm thinking of getting a Boss DD-7 Digital Delay. I read here that JB is using the DD-3. Is the DD-7 just an upgraded version with some extra features or a significantly different pedal? Anyone who owns or tried out the DD-7?

Re: Boss DD-7 Digital Delay

I just sold my DD7. I loved that pedal but I bought a TC Nova delay. YOu cant go wrong owning a DD7! Go for it!! I think any delay pedal is essential in your rig.

All my tears they fell like rain, cant you hear them falling?

Thanks Zep. I already have the Ibanez Analog AD9 (reissue) which is great for Rockabilly slapback effects but somewhat limited for other delay gimmicks, hence the DD-7.
What I need to know is will JB's recommended setting (everything at 12 o'clock) for the DD-3 work with the DD-7 as well?

Re: Boss DD-7 Digital Delay

I've got a EH memeory man with Hazarai- check out the demo on Youtube- it's hilarious!  It's very cool for the money- the only irritaing thing is you have to keep bending over to change presets & for a man of my age & size just ain't rock n' roll... just bought an MXR carbon copy which is an analogue delay, haven't had chance to try it yet- it supposed to be the best analogue delay out there- stay tuned for a review...

This don't look like no express way to me...

Re: Boss DD-7 Digital Delay

I think there will be no problem. Some artists prefer the DD-3 because it is an "easy" pedal, there aren't twenty needless Delay sims in it, it's only a great delay. The later Boss-Delay versions have some additional features, e.g. my DD-20 has 10 Delay Modes, save options/presets, and a Looper build in...

I don't know the DD-7, too, but I think, Zep is right - you can't make a mistake with buying it!

Re: Boss DD-7 Digital Delay

I thought about the DD-20 as well but I'm not sure whether there's too much "needless" stuff for me. I definitely want a tap function which both (DD-7 and DD-20) have. How easy is the DD-20 to use? What does it offer that you find essential which the DD-7 does not have?

If you want to have the biggest diversity, and if you have enough place for the DD-20, you can buy it. The most essential, additional feature of the DD-20 is - in my opinion - that you can save up to 5 presets. It has several Output settings (e.g.  L-Wet R-Wet | L-Wet R-Dry )
In the moment I'm using the DD-20 with R-Dry and L-Wet, at the beginning of my effect section, right channel is for other effects and direct into the main amp(s), the left channel (only the generated Delay effect) leads into another amp. That sounds fantastic!

If you want to play around with your effects or if you want to use different delay sounds (digital, analog, reverse etc.) within one song, with only stepping on a footswitch, the DD-20 is great!

If you don't need these additional features, if you only want a "normal" delay, you should buy a DD-7... its size is approximately a half to a third wink

Re: Boss DD-7 Digital Delay

I watched some youtube clips on the DD-7 and the DD-20. It seems you need an engineering degree to use the DD-20. Only kidding -- but I think the DD-7 is sufficient for my needs. Shame it doesn't have the "Warp" function (of the DD-6) any longer. I wonder why BOSS dropped that for this latest version? I need to go for the DD-7, though, because that one has the external tap function.

I don't like the Warp function THAT much... wink
