Topic: VOX AC15

Hey everyone....got a dilemma...still not sure what to do about my amp situation.

I have a great Vox Ac15 but I am afraid it will not be "loud" enough to hear in a band situation on stage, this is my first band situation.  I talked with the Vox people and they suggested that I add on an extension cab.  This is the one they suggested http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-VOX-V212BN--P-On

In your experience, is this good enough for small venues/bars/night clubs or should I look for something in the 40 to 65 watt range?  I know it will be depend on how hard the bass and drummers are playing but I'm just not sure what to do.  And I will take any and all suggestions....

I play small bars, clubs etc too - and I use a Marshall 18watt HW amp and sometimes a 20w clone of an amp you may not of heard of- a Trainwreck... I've actually down graded from 50 & 100w Marshall amps as a). they were getting too big & heavy to carry around and fit into some of the smaller venues I play & b). They were just too damn loud- and sound rubbish a low volumes... I find the smaller 15w & 20w amps are quieter - but NOT that much quieter- but sound much better when turning up to 'patent applied for'- I play with a very loud drummer & bass player- but I find we get a much better sound if I mic up the amp too- not with too much level through the PA - just so it gets a good spread of sound- so you just use your Vox AC15 as a personal monitor.  I actually have one of those too - and I have to say for 15watts they're pretty loud- just mic it up!

15 should be good for bars. you can get a cab if you want. If it isn't loud enough just Mic the amp through the PA. not a big deal.
though us gearheads are always looking to get new gear! So, if you have the $CHING$ then go ahead and get another amp!

Mitch:  Is your Trainwreck clone a Ceriatone?  If so, what do you think of it?  I've heard a lot of good things about them and was thinking about getting the 18W Marshall clone, but a bit nervous about sending that kind of money over the internet to Malaysia.   Would appreciate your "feedback" (no pun intended).

Carl- yes it's a Ceriatone & I have a Dumble clone & a 18w Marshall clone too also by Ceriatone - I have to say I was nervous too, but Nik (who runs the company) is a first rate guy and will answer your questions very promptly & soon put my fears to rest- he's very customer orientated.  I had no issues with having the amp sent from Malaysia- it usually takes only 2-3 days to anywhere in the world!  The workmanship & internal handwiring is some of the best I've ever seen- rivalling some of the Dave Reeves original Hiwatts I used to own.  The 18w I have is amazingly loud, easily enough for most gigs... and Nik can customise it for you - like having an effects loop installed etc... PM me if you need further info OK?
