Topic: Signature Sounds, Styles & Techniques-DVD

Picked up this informational DVD in Dallas-

We need to highly recommend this to anyone trying to learn to play like Joe. We don't play, either of us, but found this DVD a pleasure to watch.  It is an hour long and includes these subtopics:

Fender Stratocaster, Fender Telecaster, Gibson Guitars, Rhythm, Soloing, Slide guitar, Effects, Amps & Speakers, Amplifier Baffle, Mics & Amps.

Joe sits on a stool with his amps set up, his pedal board, and gives his techniques & tips into how he achieves his unique style and blend of blues-rock guitar.  He demonstrates and gives in depth examples of how he uses all of the effects at his disposal and the seemingly endless combination of uses he prefers for each sound.

It is definately worth it if you play or are learning to play.

I bought this off of eBay about a month ago & have watched it.  It's a great insight on Joe's set up (amps, guitar, etc) & his theory on playing.  But, it's definately lacking as far as Joe showing a lot of his technique & signature riffs off.

It's definately an important video to watch if you like Joe.

Re: Signature Sounds, Styles & Techniques-DVD

The new DVD is very good, but if you want to really learn from Joe you should look into getting the old Hot Licks instructional video.  It's not in production anymore but you can still find it on ebay.  Joe is fairly young in the video but his playing is still awesome.

I wonder if that was ever released as a DVD too.  I have seen the VHS listed on EBAY before but curious if released on a different format.

Re: Signature Sounds, Styles & Techniques-DVD

If you look on ebay there is a guy selling a bootleg DVD version of the VHS tape.

Re: Signature Sounds, Styles & Techniques-DVD

after being real pissed with the new Joe vid i didnt watch it for a while, but recently i started spending hours playing and replaying parts, and ive figured out quite a bit of stuff that wasnt really ment to be learnt but i figured it out anyways lol, and on the rhythm part of the dvd i figured out that whole little jam he does at the begenning, very sweet.

Yeah thats very uncool in my opinion, slightly less because its out of print I beleive but uncool anyway and illegal if I am not mistaken. in the past we have gotten auctions like that removed by reporting the seller to ebay. I tried to look up how to do that again and couldn't find it easily and last time if I remember correctly they didn't have a ctaegory for exactly this. Anyway one can easily contact the seller directly and ask/tell them to remove it, might not work but worth a try in my opinion. I have had some scary runs ins with some nasty, stupid, greedy, and/or bitter people on ebay but just as many and more great experiences with cool, generous, smart, appreciative and/or resourceful people. Thanks for mentioning it buckwild.

Interesting that someone would do this just to make a buck or two.  If it is officially released then it is ok, but sounds like it was in VHS format only.  So that answers that question.

Woah, didn't realize there was a hot licks instructional video in existence. Anyone know of where this could be obtained?

Re: Signature Sounds, Styles & Techniques-DVD

I had tried to order a copy of the Joe Hot Licks tape (FYI, it's called "Lead Guitar Unlimited") VHS tape online sometime mid-last year, received a phone call that Hot Licks had recently been sold and that there allegedly were plans to re-release the catalog on DVD with bonus features and that he'd contact me when it came in.  Still waiting.  I received Warren Haynes' "Electric Blues & Slide Guitar" on DVD for a Xmas present last year, which is a Hot Licks production.  I emailed the company (Music Sales in New York) asking if/when they were going to be releasing the Joe, but never received a response.

I agree that it is really low to be bootlegging the VHS to DVD and selling it for profit on Ebay.  One of the fanatics here was nice enough to lend me her husband's copy for almost a year until I located another one, for which I am eternally grateful.  I didn't learn one lick, but I enjoyed watching it, for sure.  It's probaby worth the $30-40 you might pay on Ebay if you are able to learn by watching, or just if you're a big fan.

I enjoyed the Signature Sounds DVD, but was slightly disappointed that it was really all about gear and not really "here's how I play <insert your favorite Joe lick here>".  I think I paid maybe $13 plus shipping for it, so no biggie...it's still really cool.

I got a copy of the VHS from Ebay recently. Didn't realize the guy was copying it took forever to ship it also. Great video the guy is a scummer for making bootlegs and selling them.
