Topic: Gear used in studio sessions...

Hi everyone, and hi Joe!
I saw you live  almost a month ago in Toulouse and your onstage rig is huge (and awesome obviously) but I wonder what gear you use when you record with your band? I guess you don't drop in the studio with your four-amp setup and your two 4X12's!  I also know that Gary Moore and Robin Trower both recorded with a Cornell 18/20 amp with a single 12" loudspeaker (for Robin) which is obviously a lot less powerful than what they use on stage. They obviously get a great tone from that low wattage amp!

The next thing is that if you use smaller cabs, maybe "smaller" amps too, then I might approach your tone with less gear (and less money too...) and that would be great because I gig small to medium venues with 50-200 persons.
So what do you use?
Thanks a lot!

Re: Gear used in studio sessions...

I believe Robin Trower sometimes uses a Fender Blues Junior to record with. I've heard other artists use a Blues Junior in the studio as well. I just read that Peter Frampton recorded "Fingerprints" with two Fender 57 twins. It's my understanding that artists rarely use their live rig in a studio setting.

Hope this helps.

Re: Gear used in studio sessions...

Gary Moore recorded three songs of his latest CD with the Cornell 18/20 combo 1X12". Robin Trower recorded Another Day's Blues and his latest album Seven Moons (with Ginger Baker btw) with the same amp, all of the songs. Their tones are absolutely gorgeous!
So the question was: Joe what do you use? smile

Robin used both a Cornell Plexi along with a Fender Blues Junior, switching between the two to record Seven Moons.

Great, I didn't know that smile

How are you?
Check out this link http://www.cavemanproductions.com/may2k8.htm and scroll down to the pic of Joe in the studio for an idea of what Joe is playing through! Brutal stuff!

It's actually Jack Bruce on there, not Ginger Baker.

I remember when the pic was posted on cavemans website - its so glorious lol.  I'd love to be in that room messing around with that stuff for a while.
