Re: Pumpkin carving time!

I posted it to his facebook as well Jane. I have a picture of it without light inside and it looks kind of blah.  She carves it in layers after sketching the picture on the skin. The picture is the one on Joe's main website in the shiny suit.

Re: Pumpkin carving time!

Well, here are two from my daughter. Hello Kitty Witch and a dragon. The one of Joe on Litho 4 was in the plans, but the rind was so thick- 4" on the dragon, that she sprained a finger carving it and that was that. Maybe next year. The dragon was killer.   https://picasaweb.google.com/1120472275 … 0589938802

Thanks Rick! That is awesome! I want to learn those sort of techniques. I was thinking of trying the BCC wings logo but there is alwasy next year

She sketches the outline on the skin, then starts cutting away layers to get the shading. Selection of the right pumpkin is important too. The dragon had 4 different thicknesses and was a very heavy one.  I think there are about 4 or 5 different home made tools in use such as spoons that have sharp and serrated edges she's fashioned. Xacto blades also are good.

I'll advise my resident master to sharpen her tools. For those that missed my daughter's first work, inspired by my #1 Litho, here is the JoePumpkin. https://picasaweb.google.com/1120472275 … 1954559778

ROCK THE GOURDS !!! you remember when M-80s were legal back in the late 60s and early 70s? People in my neighborhood had plenty of "leftovers" the next morning, only problem is it was all over their porch. lol

Hey, it's all in good fun. I think that Cathy Siler declared my daughter in the Pro division after the Joe Pumpkin. lol (She's won several local contests) My skills are probably on a par with yours.

Here's a use for all those leftover pumpkins after Halloween smile  We went to a fallfest in western Maryland this weekend and they had a pumpkin chucking contest.

Re: Pumpkin carving time!

That is cool Cathy. I think I remember the record for a punkinchunk by one of those cannons at near a mile! I'm sorry that nasty storm wrecked Halloween for the Eastern Seaboard, but thankful you and others are safe and sound.

My daughter said she is doing a Joe themed pumpkin and there will be shots of her efforts later when the sun is down and the trick or treaters are out. She lives in a neighborhood that has lots of young kids and everyone goes all out with spooky stuff around the houses. Hopefully she makes a few good ones and you can celebrate vicariously.

She done it again Rick. Very impressive wink   Cathy

Re: Pumpkin carving time!

Hmmm. I'd pass the challenge on to the daughter, but I don't think she's grooving on a bunch of KK gear.
Go for it Jane.

Re: Pumpkin carving time!

Here is her finished product with a very macabre twist. This has got to be the most evil pumpkin I've ever seen. Hope you can see this facebook photo. https://www.facebook.com/rick.beck.31/p … tif_t=like Her mom maintains she did not raise a sick and twisted child. This photo shows a side of her we didn't know. yikes
