Topic: Pumpkin carving time!

I have to admit to being a carving fool. Same with dying Easter eggs...anyway, this year I've done 3..the first is a haunted house, the second a witch stirring the cauldron,... and, my first attempt at carving layers for shading, the cover of "You and Me". It's not wonderful but you can tell that's what it is. I'll try to get a pic so George can put it up for viewing. Anybody else maiming gourds?                   Cathy

Re: Pumpkin carving time!

I've got five to do on Saturday. Bought a kit that includes all the carving tools and some plans! hey ho, the things you do for a giggle!

Re: Pumpkin carving time!

Excellent Jane.  Very Nice.  Me and wifey haven't done pumpkins in years. No kids in our neighborhood to trick or treat. But I guess we should get back to the little fun things in life. Hell might even put up a tree this Christmas.

Take care everyone. And if I don't meet you no more in this world
Then ill, I'll meet you in the next one and don't be late, don't be late

Re: Pumpkin carving time!

Wow Jane..You have me hands down. Very nice work!!! And, Jeff..who said anything about doing it for kids??? I assure you I don't get any trick or treaters...but it IS New Year's for "my people". It's cheap and it's very therapeutic. Get yourself a gourd and have at it!!!  And, don't forget to roast the seeds!   GW

That's the spirit Geoff!! They sell Martha Stewart carving kits at Macy's here!!! George finds it all amusing, so I'm glad to hear from a friend across the pond who knows how to play! Cathy

Now just a cotton pickin', gourd mutilatin' minute here! I resent the implication that 1. I don't know how to "play" and 2. that my finding all this amusing has anything to do with a lack of respect or admiration for the dedication and artistry involved in creating carved, glowing orange vegetables for one evening of the year. big_smile

So there.

And now, a drum roll for the wonderful witch's labor of love...................

Re: Pumpkin carving time!

Jeez I'm absolutely speechless! what artistry. I was just thinking of putting a few holes in for eyes, nose and mouth - maybe I'll just make some soup! I am not worthy to compete with such artistry!

Re: Pumpkin carving time!

My apologies to Joe for that awful nose! It's easy to take off too much pumpkin pulp!! I'll do better next year. There's something very Zen about temporary art! Have fun!!!   Cathy

WOW!!!  Maryland must be the Bonamassa pumpkin carving capital of the world.  Fantastic work ladies.  It's a shame there's no effective way to preserve them....

Re: Pumpkin carving time!

Wow, Jane and Cathy...nice work!
Can I ask how long these took? My usual pumpkin carving takes a half hour, including clean-up.
Course when you're cutting simple geometric shapes, it usually goes a bit quicker.

OMG.  Jane & Cathy,
I don't always read all the posts in 'Off Topics' so I almost didn't see this.  Those are amazing.  You guys are really talented.  I sure hope Joe sees them.

And I had to settle for listening to Zappa's "Goblin' Girl" on my IPod while flying home from the OC yesterday.  Oh well, back on Pacific time again on Monday. Love those frequent flyer miles.... GRRRRR!!!!!

and BRAVO to YOU too DANNY!!!  My Gosh!!!  If I still ran an art gallery, I'd have a JOE PUMPKIN SHOW!!!!
