Topic: Programme about the guitar on BBC

Hey guys,

The BBC are showing a 2 or 3 part series on the history of the guitar on Sunday evenings. The first part was last Sunday but you cn catch it on the BBC iplayer at http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00dyhyt/

The first part deals with the acoustic guitar and how it evolved from medievel lutes and other such instruments. It even mentions Django Reinhardt at the end.  Next week they are going to be talking about how it became electrified.

Worth a watch if you are into your guitars. Unfortunately i'm not sure if people outside the UK can view the iplayer sad

I watched them the first 2 parts where good, the last (last sundays) seemed to just go on bout crap tbh, I mean Air Guitar was it necessary? I also dont think some of it was suitable for younger audiences, I forget which artist it was but he basically said to be a guitarist you dont need to go to school.... and then that was reinforced by Slash saying he basically didnt... It sends the wrong signals to young kids imo and that perhaps should of been left out.. It was interesting to see Gilmores #0001 Stratocaster though and some of the vintage guitars people have been using

There was also a programme about Les Paul I saw on Friday night and that was followed by a live show with tv clips of performances by different artists in the 1970s, on Top of the Opos, Old Gray Whistle Test etc. Its worth watching if its on iplayer. Artists including Hendrix, original Fleetwood Mac, Rory Gallagher, Little Feat, Lizzy, Purple, Santana etc...

Re: Programme about the guitar on BBC

I saw the programs and thought they were good but i noticed that alot of the guitarists that where mentioned didn't give an interview they had archive footage of EC but why didn't he come on, and Jimmy Page to. It was good to see DG and his black strat
