Topic: Great weekends of blues

Too tired to be detailed but last weekend at Darwins

Damon Fowler

Last night

Scott Holt Band

Man this has been great stuff.  Killer axemen.

Damon Fowler just getting signed to Blind Pig is terrific. He is very versatile and never repeats setlists.  Uses lapsteel and slide guitars and gets great tone.  Aboveall, a nice young man who I engaged in a long conversation after the night was done.  He goes over his guitars, makes, slides, everything. a great youngman.

Scott Holt?

Ripped into his music last night.  Cut his chops playing with Buddy Guy years ago.  Matter of fact, after his first set, I talked to him about a gig he did at Toads Place in 1990 December 27.  A great night of blues with Blue In The Face opening, Sue Foley and Buddy Guy.  And believe it or not, Scott remembered that.  Another great guy and a killer guitarist.

When Darwins gets on a roll with blues, it cooks.
And it makes life just wonderful.

Bluser..Darwins in Georgia?? What a great LITTLE place!!! The weekly blues jam is a treat also. There's NO bad seat is there. LOL. I was impressed with the amount of great music available in the Atlanta area. Does Chris Duarte still show up on occasion? At any rate, glad you're able to have so much fun without burning lots of gas. Cathy

Darwins in Georgia
You are correct
Since Ernie is new owner of Darwins, I hate to say this, I dont think Chris Duarte is coming back to Darwins.

I think Ernie feels Chris charges an arm and a leg for his gigs.  It's too bad.  Nonetheless, I have seen Chris several times so it doesnt bother me.

Plus Chris is WAY TOO LOUD for Darwins.

His sound is for bigger clubs then Darwins.

He packs too much power for Darwins.

OK, I'll chime in. Last night was the Big Pig Gig in Menomonee Falls and we saw the Robert Allen Jr. Trio tear up the stage. Last time I saw Robert was at the Harley-Davidson 105th Anniversary when he opened for Bruce Springsteen. Here's some pictures and yes, Robert came up and played for Dawn and I at our standing table:

Also, here's Robert's website:

Today is the Paramount Blues Festival in Grafton, Wisconsin where we are going to see a number of artists including Bryan Lee, Watermelon Slim, Tab Benoit and Elvin Bishop. Oh, there's also a little guy by the name of Tallan Latz who goes by the name of T-Man. He'll be performing too. Here's the Festivals website:

And then tomorrow, we'll be back at the Big Pig Gig to see a Blues group called Maple Road. Last time we saw them they opened for Hubert Sumlin and the Willie "Big Eyes" Smith Band. And that little guy T-Man showed up and played there too. Here's Maple Road's website:

Gosh, I sure do wish a few more of you lived in Wisconsin! smile
