Re: Musicians Input Needed!

Hey all!

I want to thank everyone for their input in helping my son get a good start with his first guitar. I went to a newer guitar shop in town, small town, 2 guitar shops! I also took my Rockpalast DVD in to them, they have a big screen tv and needed the Joe experience (they had not heard of him!) Needless to say, checked out several guitars, and had one of the guys there play several of the guitars. We chose the one that had the best sound. As it turns out it was the one that several of the guys at the shop recommended and have themselves. It came as a kit, with a bag, tuner, amp, pics and getting started DVD for 199.99. The brand is Crate, of which I had not heard of. Supposedly Sammy Hagar uses their equipment.

We get home, get it set up, and my son starts playing part of eveyones first guitar song....Smoke on the Water, that a relative had shown him how to play back in January. I could not believe he remembered how to play it!

Thanks everyone. A big thank you to Len Bonamassa as well. It is great to see you as a dad still be involved in your sons life and helping others get off to a good start!

Have a great weekend!

Rhonda:)

Re: Musicians Input Needed!

As long as your son learns another song, I'd say you're on the right track, Rhonda! And, really, with input from the man who got Joe started, you can't go wrong.

Angela, somehow I missed the note about Joe's dad on "Trouble Waiting" (one of my all time faves). Very cool!

So, Rhonda...inquiring minds want to know...what kind of guitar did you buy him?

Keep on rockin' the blues...

Re: Musicians Input Needed!

I am sure he will learn another song, he loves Alice Cooper!

Here is the information off of the kit:

Crate - C ATE California Classic Guitar
with - maple neck / rosewood fingerboard / solid alder body / die cast tuners / vintage vibrato bridge / 2x vintage single coil / pickups and high output bridge humbucker. It is black with a white face plate - Robby already wants Joe to sign it!

The rest of the kit:
Crate digital tuner
gig bag
shielded cble
strap, headphones, picks, instructional DVD
Crate TG10R amplifier - dual channels - clesn and overdrive / 10 watts / 8 inch heavy duty speaker / ported cabinet / spring reverb / CD input / headphone jack

Not sure if this is a good guitar or not - we sort of decided on the guitar by the sound and recommendation of the helpful guy at the store.

A customer who came in said that he has the same guitar and loves it.

And Carl - thanks for the surprise - it came in the mail today!!!!!! Yeah - just in time - I start traveling with my new job Monday - lots of drive time! This will come in handy. THANKS!!

Re: Musicians Input Needed!

Man, y'all are making me want to go get an electric guitar now.  LOL.  I've already got an acoustic (which I got Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Noah hunt to sign!), and I agree, acoustic is a lot harder and can be frustrating at times.  I've played around on a friend's electric, so I know it's easier.  I work at a music store, so maybe I can get a good deal on a guitar an amps, etc.

Photogal, good luck to your son on learning guitar!  It's so great when parents support their kids in starting music, and especially at a young age.  Especially in this day and age when school music programs are being cut back.  But that's a whole 'nother topic.  LOL.
