Topic: Saw Joe in Missoula

And it was the best performance I've ever seen. Bands show up with lights, smoke and pyrotechnics. Joe brought all that to bear  between six guitar strings.  I was impressed; Impressed; IMPRESSED, I tell you.  I drove from the Miles City, Mt area to Missoula to see him. That's an 800 mile round trip. And it was worth every damn mile. Joe's heart and soul was in every song he played. What more can you ask for?

Well, I'm The 7th Son. And you folks have a good one.

Thank you, Joe.

Welcome to forum, sounds like you were impressed with Joe  lol  Rightly so, we all are.

Music is good for the Soul...

Re: Saw Joe in Missoula

Welcome aboard!  I think the best part of being at one of Joe's shows (aside from his performance) are the expressions on the faces of the "Bonavirgins" I bring along. They change from an initial wide-eyed shock to the biggest grins big_smile
Glad that you enjoyed it - remember to spread the word about Joe and to bring a whole bunch of friends along the next time he plays in your area!

Re: Saw Joe in Missoula

Well, I'm a little bummed. I was hoping to see that someone here was at the show, too. It was a packed house for a first time visit to Missoula for Joe. Everyone I got to talk to had heard his music, but hadn't yet seen him in the flesh. And they were all surprised I drove as far as I did to see him. No other business but see the show.

I had to go into Miles City today to pick up a part. That's 80 miles each way. So I took along 'So It's Like That'. I played it through twice and realized I'd seriously underestimated that release. It's even better when played at as high a volumn as my poor little stereo could go before being seriously overdriven. It was soooo sweet to my ears.

I have ANDY, SILT, BD, HTCT, Y&M and SG. I'm not sure if those are the chronological order of release, but I know I'm still looking for the older live album and now the new one, too. BTW, is 'Bloodlines' worth my while? I realize that may sound like a silly question. Joe has so many songs devoted to women and relationships, as if he's taken Son House's words to heart. I know I have. And it makes me think that Joe and Jimi must be kindred spirits in that Hendrix had my favorite songs about women. There's no doubt that these two (not unlike myself!) really dig the ladies. So It's Like That. Know what I mean?

Re: Saw Joe in Missoula

Thanks, Jane. I'll check it out.

I heard about BB King opening shows across the country with a new kid guitatist. Then I saw a mention of him in the liner notes of a long forgotten compilation cd. I came across "A New Day Yesterday" way back when, but I was still in the throws of my SRV adulation period. So, like a lot of other material from then I overlooked it. And to be honest, I really wasn't such a big fan of the kids coming into the blues scene back then. Johnny Lang, KWS, et al. I'm so happy Joe's hung in there and become what he is- and will become as he continues to mature. I hold a lot of hope for him.

BTW, I should mention that I started reading this board only earlier this year. I came across "You and Me" in  the bins and didn't think I had that copy yet. (I'm now on a quest to get all of his works). As I played the cd on my way home from Billings, 'Tea For One' totally consumed me. Nine and a half minutes of perfection. I find that when I listen to it, I have to keep replaying it, or just turn it off altogether, because I just can not appreciate anything else for hours afterward. I was pleasently surprised to see it was his #1 download at iTunes, I believe it was. Shortly after coming home with "You and Me", I looked up all things JB, and well, here I am, now amoung the faithful. And it was here that I discovered the show in Missoula. So off to see the (guitar) Wizard, I went.

And may I say it's a pleasure to meet you Jane.

Re: Saw Joe in Missoula

I picked up Bloodline through the Amazon site from one of their partners in new condition for $20 + $2 shipping about a month ago. I thought this was a good deal as that CD has probably been out of production for 10 years.  They are out there - you could try EBay too. That was $22 very well spent. You can order "Live From Nowhere In Particular" from the main page of this site or from a posted link from any of the forum members who are advertising. (free shipping).  I like ANDY live better than the studio version as for that CD Joe had changed the band line up to include Kenny Kramme on drums and Eric Czar on bass.  Joe kept that lin up together for about 5 years and they were really special. Get the ANDY live and Rockpalast DVDs too if you can, as both have the Joe-Kenny-Eric trio.

Re: Saw Joe in Missoula

I think you misunderstood me, Shredit. My point was Joe had fireworks alright, but he was doing it with his guitar; the way he played. He was THAT awesome.

I had to go to town yesterday and came across ANDY-Live.  Can cross one more off my list.

Re: Saw Joe in Missoula

Miles City, holy mackeral that is quite a trek. Are there many blues players in Miles City? We are having the River Roots festival here in Missoula this weekend and the Mike Bader Blues band will be playing. It is not Bonamassa, however, in Montana we take what we can get.

Cool. I was near the sound board about three or four rows down. Had a great group of folks around me. Where in the Wilma were you?

I was in the 5th row. I shelled out the 32 bucks for the "golden circle" tickets.

Re: Saw Joe in Missoula

Welcome to the forum 7th Son. Wow, an 800 mile round trip, I'm impressed. We are very lucky here in the UK. We never have to travel that far to see Joe but if I had no option I would....no doubt about it.
Glad you came on board...........Tripsy smile
