Topic: Favorite One Hit Wonders

What are you favorite One Hit Wonders? I could keep going but here are a few to start.

Billy Thorpe: Children of The Sun.

Donnie Iris: Ah Leah.

Aldo Nova: Fantasy.

Adrian Vandenberg: Burning Heart.

Take care

Re: Favorite One Hit Wonders

Going way back, my top two would be -

Louie Louie - The Kingsmen

and the greatest of all (imho) Stay with me baby by Lorraine Ellison.

RIP Iron Man

Rock On and keep the Faith

Re: Favorite One Hit Wonders

Now this is a fun "List Topic".

Sausalito Summernight by the Dutch band Diesel. I understand it was a bigger hit in the U.S. than in Europe for them. Eva, you'll remember this one from one of those "Name That Tune" CD's I sent.

Falling In And Out Of Love/Amy by Pure Prairie League. Featuring Craig Fuller on vocals before he took off to Canada to dodge the draft and Vince Gill replaced him. After Craig got his disdain for the military out of the way he joined Little Feat.

I Love You More Today Than Yesterday by The Spiral Staircase. Only because the original drummer, Jerry Eisenman is an old coworker/drinkin' buddy. He loves to tell the story of how he still gets a royalty check for $43 and change each year, when they can find him.

KFOG FM in SF does a one hit wonder segment on the syndicated 10 @ 10 show once or twice a year. Always a kick to listen to.

                                                                                                        Think Green,

                                                                                                        J Dawg

What is success? Is it do yo' own thang, or is it to join the rest?   -Allen Toussaint

Wouldn't consider most of these one hit wonders
Donnie Iris - Love is Like a Rock
Vandenburg - Friday Night

Also I beleive Billy Thorpe had a hit in the whole world except U.S.A. prior to Children of the Sun with his version of Bebop A Lula

Way to go ReverendPaul! I forgot about Love is like a Rock. Give this man a drink...

How about this one,  Krokus - Screaming in the Night..

Re: Favorite One Hit Wonders

Okay! I didn't know Midnight Maniac was Krokus. I guess I need some history of Music classes.

One more for you, Brownsville Station- Smoken in the Boys Room.

Re: Favorite One Hit Wonders

Some of my favorites:

Venus - Shocking Blue
Vehicle - Ides of March
Spirit in the Sky - Norman Greenbaum

I'm surprised at you, a man with your knowledge. Radar Love was a monster hit all over the world, after which Golden Earring continued to have a long and successful career in Holland with numerous chart hits. In my book that excludes them from being one hit wonders.

How about Fire by Arthur Brown? big_smile

RIP Iron Man

Rock On and keep the Faith

Re: Favorite One Hit Wonders

I'm also going a little back with my picks.

Red Eye - Games
Frijid Pink - House of the Rising Sun
Wadsworth Mansion - Sweet Mary
Alive and Kicking - Tighter, Tighter

Re: Favorite One Hit Wonders

"Never Been Any Reason"  - Head East

I could be wrong, but I know this was a monster hit and I can't remember anything else they did after this.  I saw this band in my younger days and they were the loudest band I had ever heard live.  My ears were ringing for days after that concert.

I might keep you satisfied

Re: Favorite One Hit Wonders

Well, if the definition of "One Hit Wonder" is an artist that only had one "Top 40" hit, I'll vote for these:

Jimi Hendrix All Along the Watchtower"
Janis Joplin "Me and Bobby McGee"

"Rock ON & Keep the Faith"

Re: Favorite One Hit Wonders

Mountain  -"Mississippi Queen"

Bloodrock - "D.O.A."

Free -"All Right Now"

Thin Lizzy "The Boys Are Back In Town"

Vanilla Fudge "You Keep Me Hangin' On "

I just have to correct this because Free was far from a one-hit wonder.  They were alot popular Overseas than here.
"Fire and Water" was a popular song for them also.  Most people might think that Free is a one-hit wonder because that is the only song they know.  And sometimes people don't even know who it is by.  But Free was a big influential British Blues Band that never got enough credit.

"Holy Toledo"  -  Bill King   "Just Win Baby" - Al Davis  "The Autumn Wind" - Steve Sabol

Let me clarify then..in the US, that was their only hit. I'm quite aware of Free, but in this country it was their only hit.

That was there only hit in the U.S. but I don't believe thay are a One Hit Wonder.  Because to me a One Hit Wonder means "you have one hit and you wonder where they are. "

That was never the case with Free, Jimi Hendrix or Janis Joplin.  They were always there.

Rock music is more oriented to Albums.  It's not about 1 hit, it's about a number of great songs on an album, as evidenced by the 3 artists I listed above.

The Top 40 is more based on singles.  Plus there are alot of R&B songs that never made it to the top 40 but were popular on the R&B charts.
