Topic: Guitar Zack and No Slack...

I saw them at Moondog's last night for the CD release party.....Moondog is now replacing the roof.....

I saw them again tonight at Zack's hometown bar, Harvey's.....

3 gigs in 24 hours took a bit of a toll, but it brought out the blues.....slow, smolderin', "my dog ain't died yet, but she's fixin' to..." blues.....

Jim.....the Zack you saw is the real deal.....I just don't know what else to say.....

I have never in my life seen anyone so comfortable in what they're doin'.....regardless of what it is.  Zack is so in tune with life.....he should be the head of the United Nations.....seriously.....

He did "Cause We Ended as Lovers", and I told him that somewhere in the world, Jeff Beck just sh** his pants.....and I meant it.....it was that good.....

He did Dave Brubeck's "Take 5", and there were 60+y/o's with their jaws on the floor.

I know "Red House" is the go-to cover, but when he did it, Jimi woke up.....and said, "What the..."

I'm blessed.  This kid is from my back yard.....and he's a friend of mine.....

And a cop bought me breakfast.....but that's another story.....

Edit to say:  Zack loves his Auntie Cate!!

Re: Guitar Zack and No Slack...

I'm a believer, cause seeing is believing and I have SEEN! I knew nothing about this kid when I first saw him and he BLEW MY MIND!! It was after my exposure that I learned he had won the Albert King at the IBC's and Guitar Center King of the Blues '07. I don't care if he "ain't right" because I've been called the same thing. I hope good things for him including touring in my area. If not, I'd drive a few hours to see him again. In the mean time, I'll listen to my CD and smile!!                Cathy aka "Auntie Cate"

No fair, Kevin.....my head wasn't clear when I wrote it!!  But yer right about Take 5.....it's an absolutely gorgeous song.....and Zack covered it with the utmost respect.....

George, no kiddin' Cathy got a nose for talent.....why do you think she's my Swami Cate, blues guru extraordinaire??  I was just happy to return the favor.....

And Cathy.....Zack's grandmother was there last night, and he went out into the audience and stood next to her and played for a solid 10 minutes.....while she was holding her ears and laughin' her head off!!  It was priceless!!!

They got there a little late.....they had just finished playing another gig.....and in walks Zack wearin' a Sam Snead golf hat and a Gulf Oil gas station attendant shirt.....I have NO idea where he got it.....Gulf Oil has been out of business for probably 30 years!  But, that's Zack.....

He saw me sittin' at the end of the bar, and RAN over.....like we hadn't seen each other in ages, let alone hours, and shook my hand thanking me for showin' up.  That just amazes me.  And he said to say hey to his Auntie Cate!!

They were playin' somewhere this afternoon (4 gigs in a little more than 24 hours...), and I'da loved to see them again.....but I needed to rest up for Walter Trout tonight.....

Speakin' of which, I better get my rear in gear here.....Moondog's awaits.....

Re: Guitar Zack and No Slack...

I can remember back about 5 years or so being at an outdoor festival with a bunch of local bands and Jill West called the 13 year old Zack up on stage with her band. He was a tall lanky kid with a goofy looking Gilligan hat on. Once he picked up the guitar though it was like so natural almost like an extension of his arms. Just incredable. So glad he's got his head straight and just having fun.

Take care everyone. And if I don't meet you no more in this world
Then ill, I'll meet you in the next one and don't be late, don't be late

Re: Guitar Zack and No Slack...

I like him, what I've seen.  I don't get that machobadtude from him, from the videos...

Somebody I know is a real good mother clucker.  It's good.
