Re: Baseball

Woah Shred!  You're talking WAY over my head here - I just thought it was such a
sweet story about how he came back after 3 years out of BB - rehab etc - and
made the AS team ....then having that 71 year old friend pitch for him - everyone
seemed to be rooting him on and having so much fun.  And our Ryan Braun was
respectable too.  Ben Sheets starts tonight - hope nerves don't get to him.
Then we had the Brett interview - Greta was terrible - gee's I could have asked
better questions!

Yeah, Hamilton sure put on a show didn't he?  I couldn't believe how many he hit in a row!  The guy is just freakishly good.

Yep, being out 3 years and then doing this - I guess he's just a "natural hitter" !

Right now, the Cubs have the best record in baseball and 7 all stars.
Oh yeah, the White Sox are also in first place and have surprised many people, especially those in Detroit and Minneapolis.

I know it's a bit premature, but can anybody say "subway series"?

You gotta love Ditka...he may have murdered english structure, but you never misinterpreted whatever point he was trying to make.
We love Pinella here in Chicago and he seems like just the guy to lead us to the promised land! He has certainly energized the city and probably drawn in some of the borderline fans.
Somehow I can't picture Lou sitting on his a** in the dugout during an NL championship game, while his rookie pitcher stands on the mound watching a potential world series berth crumble around him.
Gotta believe that Lou would go out and have a little chat!

Justin Morneau should have handed Hamilton the trophy. Everybody knew who the HR champ was last night. Of course the money would go to the correct charities. Justin even looked uncomfortable receiving the trophy.

Talk about movie material! Rick Ankiel's career very well could be as well, with the mental breakdown as a pitcher only to come back and be one of the best hitters in the NL just a few years later.

Hamilton is a feel good story, but really just one of many in recent pro sports annals. Too bad MLB didn't pay more attention to players excesses back in the 50's & 60's or maybe a couple of other Yankee greats like Billy Martin and Mickey Mantle might still be around for the All-Star parade of Hall of Famers and Yankee greats.

I agree with ya Dawg, Hamilton is a feel good story...but...I cant seem to get the Steve Howe vision out of my head...I meen were talking heroin...and from what other people I've met over the years that have "experimented" with it, have told me the high is so addictive, that it's  impossible to get of of your head...I pray he stays sober for life, and lives happy ever after...when you talk of The Mick and Billy, I was crushed the first time I read "Ball Four"...if you remember, it was written by ex Yankee Jim Bouton...I couldnt believe my idol ( Mantle ) would party like a mad man after games...but were all human I guess....the day Mantle passed away, I wore a black piece of tape around the sleeve of my jersey as I had a softball game that night...I tried all 4 times to hit the ball to the next county as a tribute to "my man"...but no cigar sad ...I really wanted to be the next great Yankee centerfiellder....if only I have had someone kick my behind, I would have played professionally....oh well cant look back

I was referring to Lou Pinella, by the way.  Mike Ditka is going to shush himself when he wants to swear on the air-it's hilarious. His face gets all scrunched and he stutters, mumbles or spits a little, then silence....

I figure a few people on here are watching the World Series.

DO YOU THINK JOE BUCK FROM FOX SPORTS NEWS IS BIAS AGAINST THE PHILLIES?  I do!  I've turned the TV down and put on the radio for audio a couple of times, he's totally annoying me!  Maybe he'll change his tune if we inch a little closer tonight...

I was wondering if its just me, since I am a Phillies fan, maybe my feelings are tinged.

Re: Baseball

Hi Angela!

I haven't been watching the world series too much, so can't comment on this particular announcer, but noticed the same thing during the Red Sox - Tampa series.  At times it seemed none of the announcers could say anything good about the Sox, especially when they were losing, and then as soon as the Sox would stage a comeback or whatever they would be all nice and sweet and can you believe this about them.  Can you say "bends with the wind?"  I've noticed this in football, too.  Radio is usually better, partly because it is usually local announcers that know (and favor) the local team.  My husband is always turning off the sound on the TV for NASCAR races and turning on the radio to listen.  Stick with radio.

Joe Buck is a total homer, meaning if it has nothing to do with the Cardinals he talks them down every time. Personally I thought he was being more of a homey towards the Phils since they're a National league club. Back when the Giants beat the Cards to go to the Series he was at the peak of his hominess and to this day treats the Gi's the same way when he does a national broadcast involving them. It's a shame he has none of his father, the late great Jack Buck's integrity when it comes to broadcasting the playoffs and the Series. I used to tune in his dad back when post season games were played in the day time and Jack anchored the CBS radio broadcasts. He called 'em as he saw them without an ounce of bias, he was the consumate professional. I would love to run into Joe Buck sometime and tell him exactly how I feel about his self-indulgent approach to broadcasting. If it wasn't for his father he wouldn't be where he is today. Don't even get me started on Tim, I know it all & you're an idiot, McCarver.

hi John,

You are very well informed dawg, didn't know all that about Buck.  Sorta' like Sandy was saying about the RedSoxs, he seemed to be lightening up a little last night with the game going the Phillies way. Just came across this, check out these comments, I guess its not just me.

I think if Cole had a chance to win that game he'd have been named the MVP also, but thanks to mother nature we'll never know.

P.S. If you can't take any more of Joe Buck tune in ESPN Radio and listen to a real pro, Jon Miller. Giants fans get him all season long except on Sundays when he joins Joe Morgan for ESPN TV games. Believe it or not, but two years ago the Giants hired Tim McCarver to fill in for Big Jon and I had to tune OUT!!!!!!
