Topic: Baseball

I'm a huge Cardinal fan and have been forever, but for some reason I'm just not into it this season. Maybe it's the excitement for the upcoming Missouri football season (high hopes smile )or maybe it's because of the endless injuries. But I think there is an overall loss of interest in baseball across the country. Just me? Thoughts?

I am a die hard Cardinal fan! Plenty of excitement in the St. Louis area. Granted, we have had a number of injuries, but.....we have had quite a bit of excitement with a number of our players.

Rick Ankiel - one of the best batting averages since he started with us the end of last year. Has made some fabulous catches in center field and his bat isn't too shabby either.

Ryan Ludwick - what can you say - he has been great - at the plate and in the field.

Yadier Molina - one of the best catchers out there today. Pick's em' off first and at second base. He is batting average is at 308. What more could you ask.....oh....he also is easy on the eyes! Always a plus!

Chris Carpenter will be back soon, but I know Mulder is having a tough time.

The Cardinals have always been the underdog....but we are a scrappy team that stays focused on the game, and avoids brawls in the dugout amongst it's own players! lol smile

JBSRV....Have you been to the new stadium yet? We are hosting the All-Star game next year. smile

Re: Baseball

No. There is a brick with my name on it there though. I might go for the All Star game though. I said in my post that I wasn't as interested this year as I have been... that doesn't mean I'm not a fan anymore, I am excited for this season. I think that Baseball is becoming less and less popular across the country, and it's a little depressing.

But anyway, there are some big shockers this year in the lineup. i mean who saw Ryan Ludwick in the All Star game??

No I will never let go of baseball. My family has a history of playing ball. It's sad to think that football could be considered America's favorite game (not that I don't love football but come on.... it's freaking baseball were talking about. It's more American than just about anything.)

Re: Baseball

Baseball is life!!! Never loses it's glamor in my mind. Speaking of the grand old game, I ran into a friend of mines son last night who is engaged to Dan Uggla's sister and they were both floating about a foot off the ground telling me about leaving in a few days for the All-Star game in Yankee stadium courtesy of brother Dan. They get to wander on the field during the home run derby too.

We're certainly excited about BB in Wisconsin - 3 Brewers made the All Star Team -
Braun, Sheets and my favorite Corey Hart .   We're going to the game Sunday to see
that new pitcher - CC Sabathia pitch - hope it's a good one !  Another sellout for Milw!

Re: Baseball

The Brits accuse us of ripping off THEIR game of Rounders,  I always thought it was another one of those fanciful drinking games...Seems that way in America too:
drunk softball, drunk at the stadium, (America's "Pastime" is how Pabst beer got it's name-a drunk 7th inning stretch fan talking baseball blubbering "baseball is America's Pabst time, dogonnit, *hic*...Highly offended, Miller Brewing countered with "It's Miller Time"!), drunks fans tossing bottles at the ball park, beer sponsored teams, beer inferenced team names...Golf, needs a 19th hole to have a drink to relief all that muscular tension that found no outlet tongue

Re: Baseball

I'm going to watch my nephew play in Belgium..Does that count?? Again, in this country, I'm a bigger fan of minor leagues for that old time family experience. I lost interest after Cal Ripken retired. There was a time I knew all the names of the Orioles. Not any more. They may be gone at the end of the year or even before.   Cathy

Baseball is definately not less popular in St. Louis. This city, for its size draws more fans to a game then larger cities. We have a new stadium and both the old and the new stadiums sold out the majority of the games. We are die-hard fans, whether our team is winning or not.

How about Kyle Loshe? 7 innings last night and 0 earned runs against him. There is a chance he might make the All Star game if any of the selected pitchers are in their games this Sunday.

Ludwick hit #19 yesterday!

Re: Baseball

actually baseball attendance is at an alltime high...as are MLB Extra-inning subscriptions and sales of MLB merchandise.   I just wrote a very long paper about this subject.

Baseball is religion in my house.  I'm actually about to head to practice shortly.  We just started up a varsity air force league, similar to what the navy has.  It's been a friggin blast!

Re: Baseball

Baseball is thriving here in Chicago, and always has. The Cubs draw legions of fans whether they're first or worst.
Right now, the Cubs have the best record in baseball and 7 all stars.
Oh yeah, the White Sox are also in first place and have surprised many people, especially those in Detroit and Minneapolis.

I know it's a bit premature, but can anybody say "subway series"?

Re: Baseball

Well everybody knows that football has taken over as America's past time. The baseball season is too long and drawn out and the weather so nice we're just busy. I don't think even real fans start to pay attention til after the  All-Star break. I'm a Boston fan and you'd think everyone would be happy, but nooooooooooo! You listen to Boston sports talk and now you realize nothing will satisfy SAUX fans! I am not a fan of the fans at all. Come to think of it GO RAYS!!!

You gotta love Ditka...he may have murdered english structure, but you never misinterpreted whatever point he was trying to make.
We love Pinella here in Chicago and he seems like just the guy to lead us to the promised land! He has certainly energized the city and probably drawn in some of the borderline fans.
Somehow I can't picture Lou sitting on his a** in the dugout during an NL championship game, while his rookie pitcher stands on the mound watching a potential world series berth crumble around him.
Gotta believe that Lou would go out and have a little chat!

He blew it!!...I've seen so many of these homerun contest, it really surprises me that they guys dont use their heads....I'm going to sound like a know it all when it comes to the game, but I have stayed at a "Holiday In Express" before...lol

It goes like this...when your tired of swinging a baseball bay that many times...drop down one ounce in weight, I'm going to guess he was at 34 ounces to start, you drop one and keep the same bat speed...or you choke up one inch, basically the same as dropping an ounce....finally you swing at every 4th pitch (if it's in your zone)...that will give your body exactly enough rest to keep bat speed....have I mentioned "BAT SPEED'!!!!....

"Your baseball....been there..... done that dude"

Dave

P.S....I forgot to mention he lost the contest after obliterating 28 baseball into Yankee Stadium in the first round, only to tire in the 3rd when he was gassed!
