Topic: Greetings from the Emeral Isle

Well a big hello to everybody and greetings from Ireland.

Three days ago my brother called over and handed me 3 cd's. Nothing unusual about that! He said "You better listen to these because we are going to see this man in Dublin on Tuesday night"   "JOE BONAMASSA, i've never heard of him".

It's now the morning after the show and i cannot believe the truly wonderful show i saw last night. I've never seen guitar playing like that since Rory Gallagher RIP.

Joe and the band....Thank you for great show.

You guys in Belfast are in for one hell of a treat tonight. Batten down the hatches for an assault on the senses

Re: Greetings from the Emeral Isle

Ah Muddy.  You've been what we around here call "Bonabaptized".  Yipppeeee!!  Indeed, Joe and 'the boys' are spectacular and we are SO pleased that you have discovered that for yourself, LIVE and in PERSON!!!

Welcome to Joe's Forum.  There are a LOT of really nice folks here who are WILD about Joe.  Sit down, relax, open a thread on the Introductions page and tell us a little something about yourself.

I know that Joe could play one of those kid's guitars with the plastic strings and make it sound good-

Re: Greetings from the Emeral Isle

Hi Eamon. You lucky boy! To have your first Joe experience be a show. That's Baptism by Fire!!! Joe is a big Rory fan, so on behalf of him, thanks for the compliment. Many of us aren't players so don't worry. Nothing but great people and musical insights here. Have fun!  Cathy

Where abouts in Ireland are you from?  I'm also into the same music as yourself especially our Rory.

Re: Greetings from the Emeral Isle

Thanks everybody for the lovely welcome,im feeling at home already

Thanks for the nice thoughts about Rory,a true gentleman of the blues. He will never be forgotten in my home town. Speaking of nice thoughts.....what about the wonderful JB. I've waited since 1995(rory's passing) to find someone who plays with such passion and beauty.

I still can't get over the performance i witnessed last night....an outstanding display of pure skill and natural talent.....a genius at work.....he made it look so easy, a sure sign of someone who is at the top of their game. The acoustic guitar section was spectacular.

Univibe: I am from Co.Meath. You may have seen me wearing a Rory Gallagher tribute T shirt for the Ballyshannon Tribute weekend in June 2008. I was up near the stage.

Good luck for the show tonight. Enjoy.  I would love to get the set list for this Irish Tour.

I wonder is Joe sticking with the same format for both shows.

Cant wait for Joe to come back very soon. On last night's performance i don't think we will have to wait too long.

Joe rocks for me

Re: Greetings from the Emeral Isle

Even though I'm new as well I'll say hi and welcome.  Joe had the same effect on me, but instead of Rory Gallagher it's Stevie Ray. Have fun.

ps: I love the name Muddy Waters

Eamon/Guys

Unfortunately I didnt get to see all of the Belfast gig in fact i only saw the first 4 songs as my wife became unwell so i couldnt tell you the full format.  Matt should be able to tell you the full set list.  I met him briefly in the queue for the gig but didnt get talking to him.  Matt please accept my apologies my friend and thanks for the disc but i had to look after my wife.

I thought the Spring & Airbrake venue was far too small for Joe there were people watching it from the hallway with limited view and some where crushed in like sardines and the heat was unbareable.  Tickets were still being sold at the door even during the show so the venues security were just basically letting more and more people in.

One good thing that came out of the Belfast show my wife told me she was expecting our second child during Sloe Gin and it was such a beautiful moment.

Neil

Ps  Joe if your reading this get yourself & the band back to Belfast soon.

Re: Greetings from the Emeral Isle

Hi Muddy

I'm also a lover of Rory and Ireland (hey, my middle name is Patrick).
Have been to Ireland several times for holidays and made the trip to Cork to see the Rory tribute statue which was really nice. Couldn't find the Rory cafe though. Do you know if it's still there ?

I think your reaction to a live Joe show is pretty typical.
It's a great ride smile

Congratulations to you both!  (probably why she was unwell, especially with the heat and the crowd!)

Re: Greetings from the Emeral Isle

Rory Gallagher really was a legend wasn't he? He did what SRV did 10 years earlier.

Great news Neil and best wishes to the future Joe or Josephine! smile Hopefully Joe will return to Belfast after the birth smile

Re: Greetings from the Emeral Isle

Welcome to the forum Eamon. We feel your enthusiasm...you are in very good company here, plenty of Rory fans too ( our youngest son is called Rory). Have fun here and I hope Joe and the guys pay you another visit next year.

Neil, congratulations on the good news. What a way to find out...during Sloe Gin. She probably had no choice but to tell you. She wouldn't be able to get you away from a Joe gig unless it was serious eh? Hope she is feeling better now.
