Re: Mighty Orq

Hey Jim.....I like that.....a lot!!!

I'm beginnin' to worry a bit that once I get to Texas, I may never come back.....

They're at home still runnin' for bells

Re: Mighty Orq

Here is their My Space with a couple of new songs and a few old ones. The tour dates list Germany this fall which coincides with the release of their new album world wide. Any of these venues close Eva?

Re: Mighty Orq

Dino check these guys out and let me know what you think.

They are cool! cool
Unfortunately they´re not playing near me, otherwise I´d go and see them ... hope they come back soon ...

Thanks for introducing them, Jim - I´ll surely give their new album a listen.

Err Jim, you forgot this:

For some reason the songs did not play, but I'll try again later.

They certainly have a diverse group of influences:

Stevie Wonder, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Arc Angels, Honeydogs, Deep Purple, Jayhawks, Earth Wind & Fire, Wilco, KISS!!!!, The Beatles, Miles Davis, Tower of Power, King's X, ZZ Top, Spinal Tap, Doyle Bramhall II, AC/DC, The Faces, Gov't Mule, Don Julio, Weed, Red Bull.

Re: Mighty Orq

Oops. Thanks Duncan.

Re: Mighty Orq

Jim, thanks for mentioning MY favorite local band!
I've been lucky enough to see them about 20 times over the past few years and they always ROCK.
Orq is a gifted singer, songwriter, and guitarist for sure.
Matt Johnson is an awesome drummer.
Their new bass player is Mark White, formerly of the Spin Doctors.
As you know, they opened for Joe B. in OK a while back.
Hopefully, they'll have some better YouTube videos soon.

Re: Mighty Orq

Yes they need some better video. You ought to take a camera next time you see them. I just checked Itunes where they have their albums available. To The Bone is the new one more pop blues rock. Milk Money bluesier but still rocks. I would recomend both.

Re: Mighty Orq

The Orq were in town last night. Here is a better quality video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sM9pyfRL … re=related hopefully some footage of last night will be forthcoming.

Orq does some pretty interesting covers. With a tease of Voodoo Chile with which is was thinking what the heck are they doing that for they segued into Prince's Kiss.

Jim

I was almost scared off by the vids.  That's one of my peeves about Youtube - the sound quality's not always the best.  Was able to sample To the Bone and Milk Money and The Mighty Orq is a great little band.  Not that cookie-cutter blues either - they've got their own sound.  Haven't gotten to their MySpace yet and am wondering where in Texas they're from.  There's a LOT of great music coming out of Texas these days.  Btw, so far I really like "Sweet Inbetween" (a little Zeppelinish) and "Scars".  Thanks again for the heads-up!

Re: Mighty Orq

That's a good band. I'll have to try to see them if I end up going to Texas this summer.

They are from Houston. The two most recent albums Milk Money and To The Bone are two of my most played albums behind Joe B. His voice is very similar to Doyle Bramhall II but his guitar playing is like nobody else I've ever heard.

Re: Mighty Orq

After further investigation, I just get more and more impressed with The Mighty Orq.  If you've got to pick one album I'd go with Milk Money.  To the Bone's an exceptional disc as well - may have more rockers.  Either way you can't go wrong getting both.  Jim's my new E.F. Hutton!
On their Myspace influences they list Stevie Wonder #1 and I find that interesting for a blues/rock group.  They nail a cover of Stevie's "I Believe" on their first album, Prayer Book.

Re: Mighty Orq

Thanks for the heads up Jim.  I've got To the Bone on my list.  The previews at iTunes sound good.

I first heard of them through Phil. So I got to give him some recognition and thanks for giving me the heads up.
They still do I Believe live. They really are good band. You are right about them not being your usual blues rock band.
