Topic: I gotta say....

Hey Everybody...
i just wanted to say thanks again for another great US tour.. I am off to Europe in a few days..  I look forward to a great  6 weeks there.. but I have to say.. the stuff I am reading here is painting a very different view of my personality. I put everything I have into each show.. I meet as many people as I can everyday.. I am sick at least 10 times a year..( no kidding) I have noticed a change here on the forum from a overall  good or bad view of the show or record to a nit picking of every manurism and handshake.  Even some moron critisizes the way my diesel jeans fit me on a paticular day. I have to say this is not what I signed up for..   If you dont like a show fine.. give it to me,  If you dont like my record, bring it on.. thats what this is for.. Please do not  cheap shot  me to death or grind a ax if you have one to grind..  Its not fair to me or the majority of fans who are so dedicated and kind and generous. Start a blog called "I hate Joe Bonamassa" or something but dont do it here..  HUNTING SEASON ON ME IS OVER.....I am really hurt by the pettiness and the basic lack of class of the content written here. Its just stupid.. Makes me want to quit...  to be honest.

PS..  If demanding that a venue acts professional and has a real sound system constitutes a ego then I have a ego..  I will never sell the fans who drive so far short because a club doesnt get it... You all deserve better..
Also I will never apologize for riding in a tour bus... I worked my **** off for that..
Maybe I should find another profession.. I just did 8 weeks of hard shows.. and this is what I read.. come on..

A very  frustrated and disgusted  Joe Bonamassa

Re: I gotta say....

Joe,

As you prove every single time you take the stage, you ARE working your **** off to bring your fans the best show possible. We're lucky you tour as much as you do, we're lucky you take the time to meet with everyone (the folks from Blogcritics especially appreciated the chance to say hello after the Vegas show), and we're damn lucky you are so demanding of yourself and the people with whom you work.

There may be the occasional naysayer, but I know without a doubt I'm not alone when I say how much I appreciate the lengths to which you will go to make each show as good as possible.

In the four years I've been following you, from San Diego to Reno to Vegas and back, I've never been disappointed by a performance or any personal interaction we've had. In fact, I have to say, you've been exceedingly kind and generous and I will continue to spread the word.

As for getting sick, do I need to play Sharona/Natalie to your Monk and follow after you with handiwipes? But seriously, a pack of handiwipes goes a long way when you're out there shaking hands.

Be well, have a great European tour, and we'll see you in San Diego in November.

P.S. Connie's half of the interview is up on Blogcritics and, since meeting you, she can't stop talking about what a nice guy and great role model you are. Oh sure, I told her a million time, but seeing you in person sealed the deal.

Re: I gotta say....

Joe brother; Kudos for trying….but you can not be everything to everyone - step back from trying & enjoy this time in your life - your only 29 once & it's a wonderful time to be alive & playing the music you love = find some time away from the show's every now and then & take the time smell the roses along the way.

There will always be someone who wants more….always……..give it your best & walk away from the negativity knowing you did just that. / Perhaps a stop in Amsterdam…..will cheer you up!!! (Smile)

Please….watch your health closer – being on top….will not be worth it --- if you can’t enjoy it…take your time --- it’s a long way to the top

Amarillo loved ya!

Joe B. It is a sign of success. As your popularity grows so will your detractors. I say #### um if they don't get it. We do and thousands more across the country and in Europe. Don't let one or two maybe three dick heads rain on your parade. Your true fans and friends are here. A true fan loves seeing you in that bus. We helped you get there. A true fan wants you seen by the largest possible audience. We have been working to get you out of the shitholes. It has been working.

Goddamnit Joe. Don't let these ******* ruin your day. I know you are tired and this is no way to relax and enjoy a little time off. Cruiseing over to the Forum where you can stay in touch with the fans and this **## is here. Time to take control once again. I for one resent people shitin on a guy in his own house. That is why you keep your door locked so the riff raff can't get in. There are ways to keep this thing from happening.

Nick you got to check in once in a while dude. Even on the weekend.

Re: I gotta say....

Joe, 99.9 percent of the people are big fans of you, and your music

I was quite suprised to see someone post that on your web site
this site is for your fans, and you have many

that belongs elsewhere

just simply need a couple of moderators, to simply delete those posts
when they come up. there are always one or two bozos that want to
stir things up

this is one of, if not the best forum on the web.
some guys are tabbin your stuff, I'm learnin to play your music (ok...kind of ;-)

you even reply to posts here...how cool is that

Re: I gotta say....

Joe,

I totally agree with everything you wrote- the garbage that goes on here is a major reason I hardly ever post anymore-

Please know that in Illinois, there is at least one family here that absolutely loves your music, and is so very appreciative of your kindness and generosity towards us at EVERY show of yours we come to see!

I, Personally, have NEVER seen you be anything except accessible, kind, appreciative and generous to your fans... but I have seen some fans act pretty demanding of you! Ive been to lots of shows and I've seen it pretty often-

Please try not to let the nitpickers get to you too much- people like that usually are never happy unless they are making everybody else miserable.

You continue to be the one artist constantly playing at our house, and you have 3 children over (besides Mom) here that simply love and adore you and your music, and they are always telling people who will listen about the day they met Joe Bonamassa, you were THAT generous to them...

And the little guy in my avatar? Is now signing up for guitar lessons because of you, so please take the good that you have done and continue to do and keep it in your heart, and know that there are many of us out there who know all that you do and appreciate it very much!

Have a safe trip to Europe, and have a GREAT tour!

Joe, First of all you don't need to respond to this kind of **##. 99% of all people on this forum know what you do and appreciate your dedication and sincerity when it come to appreciating your fans. Having the trolls coming out of the woodwork is part of being successful. There is a lot of jeoulsy in this world and people love to see others fail. They love to take shots at people that have risen above them in stature and fame. It could be a frustrated musician. It could be a long time fan that liked it when you were a guy playing Ohio 4 times a year and traveled around in a van. The bottom line is you don't need to be providing them an easy avenue to attack you here.

Nick. Off with his head.

Jim

Well said.

Joe, in your effort to be accesable you have provided the crack pots a ready made vehicle for them to attack you; as fans and friends post in order to get the truth out, they get attacked on other sites or via email for not being objective. As if objectivity is measured by only being negative.

It's time to actively moderate these forums and prevent these assholes from causing you, your family, friends, and fans unwarranted frustration.

Re: I gotta say....

Joe, as you know, you have some very dedicated fans and we are here to support you.  When we read negative post(s) then it affect us too in the same way.  Such posts are not warranted and outright malcious.  I agree that there needs to be some more moderation in deleting certain threads.  Everybody has an opinion but hunting season for you is not in on this forum.

You have earned where you are today and we hope that you will continue to grow in popularity, which we know that you will.  Your bus is great and it really beats the old van days.

Hope you guys enjoy your time in Europe and look forward to seeing back in the states.

Music is good for the Soul...

Re: I gotta say....

hey, since we helped pay for that bus, can we get a spin 'round the block in it?????

Re: I gotta say....

Joe, don't sweat it man. You can't please everyone all the time...you know that.

If records keep selling, and venues keep booking...you're doing your job.

btw...your sun glasses looked a little dirty at the Decatur, Ga show....JUST KIDDIN...hehehehehe....

seriously man, the kudos far outweigh the bulls**t...let it slide off you back...

Re: I gotta say....

Hey Joe....I can only hope those who feel the need to offer immature and petty criticisms, in order to feel better about themselves, all fall down very steep steps in unison. Thanks for a killer show at Brookhaven last night (I was that guy yellin' "Hold that note!!") and a serious bow to you for that blistering, red-hot rendition of ZZ's "Just Got Paid". With the little Zeppelin thrown in the middle, I just about lost my mind....and that is an understatement if there ever was one. Safe trip over to Europe, and I anxiously look forward to the next gig down the road. "Always on the road", right? LOL   ...Stay strong, brother.

The best of the blues new-breed you simply MUST hear: Joe Bonamassa, Lance Lopez, Eric Sardinas, Wes Jeans, Mark Cook, Mato Nanji (Indigenous), KWS (when he wants to), Eric Gales, Tommy Castro........more to come.

Re: I gotta say....

Joe, don't let the ***holes bother you.  The bad thing about the internet is that it provides a ready avenue for angry people with psychological issues, people with axes to grind, or maybe musicians who are jealous because they didn't make it or have your talent and you are on the cusp of being big.  Get one or more people to monitor the board and delete threads that cross the line.  Naysayers will #@$@# about "freedom of speech," but just because people have the right to speak doesn't mean you have to build them a platform to s**t on you.  Let them do it elsewhere if they must, but realize that it's because of jealousy and/or an ax to grind like former disgruntled employees or promoters who run sh**holes that are not up to standards.  The other category would be internet trolls who just like to stir the crap and are likely abusive narcissists with serious psychological issues, a lot of anger, and too much time on their hands who want to spread the hate and recognize that you are a popular target and this forum gets a lot of traffic.  You don't owe these people the right to post on your board, so get someone to actively delete abusive accounts and threads if need be.  Please don't let these morons and haters get you down because you are the best thing to happen to music and the blues in the last 15 years and the world needs your music.  Plus, you're a hell of a nice guy whatever the jerks say.  But I'd follow you for the music anyway even if you weren't.  I hate to say it but as you get bigger you may need a little distance from your fans because you don't owe us the handshakes and hi-how-are-yas that you do all the time.  Lastly, this stuff is a sign of your success because unhappy people want to tear down successful people.  Don't let the fu**ers get you down, keep playing your music because you absolutely rock!  Have a good European tour and we'll see you in Clear Lake when you get back.

Re: I gotta say....

Hey, thank YOU for a great summer tour!  We all enjoyed shows during 4 of those 8 weeks you referred to, which was a great time for everyone (including my 75-year old mom who typcially sticks with Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Mario Lanza & the like).  Have a safe & fun 6 weeks in Europe with the shows and hopefully a chance to take in some of the sights & the history.  See you in November in DC and also in Columbus (where I will be glad to come bearing dinner, if that's ok with you guys).  Take care!

PS  As for other professions should you decide to quit your current one, how 'bout child care?  'Cause if you no longer make music, I'm sure going to need some help entertaining an almost-4-year old who will subsequently have a void in his life!!

Re: I gotta say....

Joe, just remember that for one a-hole, there are many more who would do anything for you. I am sorry you're having to go through this. You don't deserve it. It pains me to see this. But just know that people like me and the majority of the people on this board love your music and you. If you have to start editing posts, so be it.

On another note, I am a Resident Assistant here at Arkansas Tech, and I have some Japanese students of my wing of my residence hall. They all play guitar. I had my door open and was playing and they came in and we started talking about playing guitar. They thought I was so good. But I just popped in Live At Rockpalast and they were amazed completely. One kid started rubbing his arms like it was giving him shivers. And today, that same kid came up to me and was like, "I must finish that movie!"

Re: I gotta say....

I'm going to add one more thing. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that you are becoming more and more popular. The more popular you get, the more shots people are going to take. It's actually kind of a ratio. Say, for every 100 fans you make, there is going to be one who has something negative to say. Well, as you get more popular, if you have 100,000 fans, you have 100 people saying something negative. The negative people tend to be the most loud, in my experience. So, while they're the minority, they act like they're the majority. If you just discard them as the minority, it helps. I know because with my dad and his restaurant, when we started out small, there were few complaints, one here, one there. As we became more successful, there were more negative things. Not because we had changed or something, it's just that more people were coming through our door. All numbers go up when the success level goes up, even the complaints. At the same time, this forum is a marketing tool. If you feel the need to start editing posts, deleting threads, do it. Because, a new fan reading the thread that visitor might have been turned away, AND IT'S NOT EVEN TRUE!

Re: I gotta say....

Dear Joe.

Good luck on the Euro Tour.

Please keep in mind that you are playing and working for the people that enjoy the music.  And of course a decent living.

Don't know if you have ever seen it but the SRV live at Montreux  two thirds of the audience is booing.  He played as hard for the third of the audience that was into it as he ever did.   And yes people made fun of his clothes.

Love the shows, will have to say they are never long enough.

Rock on
