Topic: new to this...

Hello everyone,   i'm Brian from central IL.  I'm 21 years old. I got turned onto Joe from a musician in St. Louis, Tony Campanella.  I grew around music and guitars, i never really tried to learn until about age 12. And then i only picked it up for a little while. About 2 years ago i really took a dive into the blues and classic rock from late 60's and 70's.  One thing i've learned in the last 6 months is that you can learn something from absolutely anyone.  I heard about Joe about a year ago.  That man's music is just powerful is the best way i can describe it.  Aside from music, I go to college for radiography.  It's pretty exciting.  I dont really know what to say, other than this is me, lol, and i look forward to meeting some interesting people on here. This is my life in a book bag.

Welcome, many nice folks around here.  Many with lots of years of experience playing and recording guitars.  A great resource, there are lots of old threads about echo and reverb using single as well as multiple amps for the "Eric Johnson sound", poke around I think you'll find what you asked about in your other thread.

Re: new to this...

thanks for the welcome dave. i'm definately going to keep digging and experimenting. but i kind of have the feeling what i'm looking for isnt to be had with the equipment i currently have.  I was seriously considering getting rid of my vibroverb to get a marshall plexi or buddy SD, until just a couple days ago i finally found a place to go play at wher i can run the volume up some and i mean the tone came alive in that amp, i was impressed. I think i want to be buried with that amp now when the time comes. Look forwra to talking with you again.

Re: new to this...

Classic thing that people do early in their playing years is buy to much amp for where their really going to be playing.  The tone comes when you can work the tubes hard a get that beautiful breakup, chime with 84's,crunch with 34's of 6V6's.  And 18-30 Watt Class A amp that you can drive hard is a beautiful thing.  Find the amp to works for where your going to be playing, I have several 100 watters the only get used several times a year.  I am charter member of the more money than sense club.  There are a million great reverb/echo pedals, everyone has an opinion.  Find the one that sounds great to you, even if everyone else tells you it stinks!  Your want the sound that's going to inspire you to play as best you can.  I'll get off the cross now they need the wood! Cheers, Dave

Hi Radiographer... It's always wonderful when we get a young player like yourself to join in. I don't play, but I love gear. As you've already seen, there are many experienced players here willing to "talk shop". Enjoy yourself and get to a show!!!     Cathy

Welcome from another non-player who knows incredible music when he hears it.

The neat thing is we are really like an international family who all share common interest (obsession, fascination, etc.) with Joe's music.

Best of luck in your studies and I look forward to reading your thoughts on Joe.
