George - I resisted the temptation to post that one. Silly George. You're scaring the masses!!!
MINK Willie DeVille - modern day Zorro. Hey Joe!
FROM Doc Pomus, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member who penned Save the last Dance For Me:
"DeVille knows the truth of a city street and the courage in a ghetto love song. And the harsh reality in his voice and phrasing is yesterday, today, and tomorrow—timeless in the same way that loneliness, no money, and troubles find each other and never quit for a minute."
He defines a very different reality...Street but Delta, Latin but Cajun. Caught on in Europe, never here. Heavily influenced when I was a young man by John Hammond. Soul singer. Greaser. Bluesman.
I think he's Basco & Iroquois, if memory serves. and of course a little Irish because they're everywhere.

Could there be anything more sacreligious than Jimi lip syncing????? Rare video though. Roy's studio version always comes to mind when I hear anybody do it.

Otis Taylor plays a banjo version of Hey Joe in his new CD which I like very much. Robert Plant was doing a nice theatrical version as well as Willy Deville in a Mexican Style and Popa Chubby very near to Hendrix.
WAITING FOR JOE DOING HEY JOE.

speaking of hendrix covers i just bought the govt mule show with who knows. it is a fantastic jam and has been done by many people. i have mule, band of gypsies(naturally), jimmy thackery, scarlett runner w/craig erickson, stoney curtis band and umphrey's mcgee versions of the songs. the bassline and riff are just perfect to jam on. anyone know of any other versions?
