Topic: Joe's a real a-----e

From the moment he stepped of the bus he did nothing but chew my **** and everyone else connected with the show.Yes it was hot and he did nothing but complain about everything. The stage, the heat,no lights and his gear.If he wanted a covered stage he should have put it in his contract. No one can predict the weather or the heat wave that the country is going through right now.I worked my **** off to bring Joe to town.I had radio stations playing his stuff for over a month and even got some print advertizing. Not to mention that this was a free show to the public and that all his fans got a freebee for a change.I backed the show up at least a hour so the heat and sun would pass, brought in a spot light to help light the stage per Joe's request and not so much as even a thank you for anything.I even had the sound company bring in a brand new line aray rig just for Joe.We had to jump through so many hoops for him that it turned out to be a real joke.I don't think anyone around here will be booking Joe for a show for a long time, well maybe the cheesy casino's.You lost a lot of fans because of your attitude and lack of kindness. So the next time your coming through KC just roll down the window, flip us the finger and keep on going.

Having booked Joe you must know all his contacts. Why you even probably have his phone number. Why not air your complaints like a professional and handle through his management or even Joe himself.

Coming on to his fansite forum and attacking him is pretty chicken **##.

Where was this show?

Yeah, I'm sure that it was quite the surprise that it was hot in Kansas City in July. Who would've thought?
and Jim's right...airing it out here lacks professionalism and class.

Re: Joe's a real a-----e

I can't remember attending an outdoor show in the daytime that didn't have some sort of cover on the stage; it seems unusual to me that it wasn't thought of. Even with the cover there are typically fans as well to keep the gear and the artists a little cooler.

I'm sure everyone understands that the electronics in amplifiers cannot stand such direct heat - even the covers of the road cases will not stay attached to the case itself without bubbling or warping, so you can imagine what it might do to the insides of the gear.

I don't believe summer heat is totally unexpected; although it may be a few degress hotter than usual that difference was not what caused the problem. Any typical summer would have been too hot.

So you got your feelings hurt - its always harder to look in the mirror and accept some responsibility than it is to just blame someone else and call names.

If there is a real business issue here, you need to address it with Joe, Joe's management, or Joe's booking agency - not on Joe's forum. That lacks taste and class. Much like falling short in the production of a show and blaming it on someone else.......

Have a great day!

(phew, its hot cool)

Re: Joe's a real a-----e

The following was posted by regular forum contributors soon after the show

"We pray for the day that Joe plays at better venues such as The Pageant. It's where Robin Trower is playing this evening, and where Joe should be playing. It was hard to watch him risk his health as well as thousands in gear.  We're putting in more than just a word for you tonight on this.  Jim & Kathy"

Re: Joe's a real a-----e

Joe has spent years working his arse off in crapholes that take the place of venues, and now that he's gotten in a bit better situation all he asks for is to not have to go through that again. Good for him.

Re: Joe's a real a-----e

Outdoor concerts without a covered stage are just plain stoopid!  Sounds like this show was done on the CHEAP at the expense of the artist.

Re: Joe's a real a-----e

First of all, Joe should be able to count on any place he plays to provide the necessities (umm... well, the first thing that comes to mind is a COVERED STAGE and, lets see... oh!!! I got it how about some LIGHTS so the people in the audience can see- I don't know- just a thought...) a covered stage- everyone who has ever been to a concert and knows anything about musical equipment would know that musical equipment is extremely expensive- the cost of the band's equipment is probably close to six figures...plus IT'S THE MIDDLE OF THE SUMMER!!!!!!!!  Even if the concert was happening during the fall, when it is a little cooler, I and I think every single other musician out there would want a covered stage if he/she were playing outside... second of all, Joe is probably the nicest guy in the music business today- it's not fair to him or any of his fans to come onto his message board-HIS MESSAGE BOARD and call him out like that- acting like a complete and total (insert any expletive here) like that is not going to get you anywhere- if you have a problem with anybody- be a man and tell them to their face... I'm sure you at least have the number to somebody in Joe's entourage- CALL THEM IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH JOE... most of the people on this board are just fans of Joe- we have no contact with Joe except for at his concerts, when he stays around after the show and signs anything you want and talks to you for as long as you want... You really should be ashmed of yourself- what exactly were you trying to accomplish by doing this?  this is something a 2 year old knows not to do...

ahh... now that I've vented my anger, I feel much better...

Re: Joe's a real a-----e

Must agree with you guys, that venue sounds dodgy.
In UK you would be in big trouble putting the public or artist at risk without some kind of cover (more often from rain) the sun is seen as a health hazard.Schoolkids are given sun blocking cream when outdoors. Venues are licensed by the local authorities and checked to see that they comply to a miriad of rules.Running gigs aint easy here, hazard assessments, safety certificates etc.
We dont get the temperatures that you get normally, so in the summer its the indoor venues that suffer, even with aircon.
People stay outside to enjoy the sun.
Seems they prefer skin cancer to lung cancer in the summer.
Joe seemed nice enough when I met him although a previous promoter found him awkward,in my experience guitarists can adopt a primadonna attitude but they're the ones folks go to see,not us poor old bass players or drummers.
After all its the headline artist who loses if the promoter messes up.

Re: Joe's a real a-----e

Yeah, man.......SHUT UP! You had no right to try and set that show up in the first place, if you were going to be so cheap about it. You obviously know NOTHING about it. So go back to the cave you crawled out of and stop acting like the giant a**h**e you are.

Re: Joe's a real a-----e

The person who posted this has me pissed!

The concert was two weeks ago! I am supposing that you are with the KC Blues Society? Are they aware that you have come on this board an made these statements? How unprofessional! I was also at this concert. As a matter of fact I was there at 2:30 in the afternoon to make sure that I would get a good spot close to the stage. Because of the "lack of information as to where at the City Market the concert would be held" I had to arrive early. Gee, I wonder if you had anything to do with this lack of information?  Any IDIOT knows that the midwest is hot, especially in July. You also picked part of the hottest time of the day to start a concert (5:00pm) for the opening band.  I do not have photos so everyone else can see what I am talking about, but, you should have turned the stage to be under one of the stalls where the vendors are and provided some sort of acoustics to project the sound out to the audience.

If you had any experience at all putting on concerts you should have anticipated the heat and the sun. It did not get hot all of a sudden. The meterologists had predicted the heat wave a week prior to this. You should have made the appropriate accomidations. Joe came from Nebraska the night before. Prior to this (4th of July week) he was recovering from strep throat and still managed to put on a show. At what point and time does an artist need to stop and think about their health. An artist should not have to put such things into a contract like protection from extreme elements. Would it have been redicilous to request a canopy had it ben raining? Or would it have been rude of Joe to want to protect his equipment and to not be electrocuted? Artists have a choice in where they want to play, they do not have to play in your town. If you want to attract good artists then you need to have a reputation as of one that takes care of the artists and makes sure they have what they need to put on a good show. Within 5 minutes of starting the show, Joe was drenched in sweat. He sould of suffered heat stroke, but I guess you did not care. If you need to see proof, here are my photos.    http://www.flickr.com/photos/52152210@N00/

If you were a good production company you would have approached Joe as soon as they got there and said, "Hey Joe, we are experiencing some unbelievable heat. We have a canopy on its way for the stage, and we were thinking about pushing the concert back an hour or so. We also have a spotlight on the way in case it gets too dark. We will set up fans at the ends of the stage to try and help move some air. Is there anything else that else that you can think of that might help?"  I am sure Joe would have been appreciative that you at least made an effort. Not only did you jepordize Joe and the band members health, but what about the Dan Doran Band who opened. What about the fans? No one was even selling water at the event? That is something that should have been a given considering the heat. You managed to push your KC Blues society garb.

I was at the show and Joe was wonderful to his audience. He signed my CD prior to the show and then after the show posed for a photo with me and my son, along with signing 2 posters.

I guess in your case you get what you give! If you are the person who was overseeing this event, the KC Blues Society should fire your ****! You have disgraced yourself and your organization. You are not a professional and have no business "putting on" concerts. Any professional person plans in advance and anticipates these sort of things.

You are lucky Joe still played with your lack of planning. It sounds to me like you needed a top blues artist to showcase your organization but did not hold up to being a top class organization yourself.

As much as I would like to direct a few choice words in your direction, I don't need to, you have already embarassed yourself. I hope that your email is the general feeling of your organization, because I am sending a copy of it to the KC Blues Society in hopes that you are no longer associated with them. We don't need people like you jepordizing our beloved blues artists.

Amen Photogal!!! This novice entrepeneur needs to use this experience to grow from if he's going to stay in this business. My experiences w/ Joe are that he is one of the most grounded musicians I have ever met.

I just sent a copy of this persons post and my reply to the KC Blues Society. I stated that Joe and his fans deserve a public apology on this message board. We'll see what happens.

It was 100 degrees here near St. Louis today. I wonder if that caught anyone off guard in KC today? LOL
